Yeah, probably the best system-shock-clone released so far. It has a lot of issues, mainly balance-related, but god damn the core design is great, and so are environments and level design in this thing.

What makes System Shock good?
One of my favorite games this gen, despite some issues. Fair warning, the bugs can be pretty bad, though I got lucky and nothing too terrible happened. Stuff like missions being unwinnable, or literally unplayable framerate at random times.

Player-driven exploration, sense of place, environmental and indirect storytelling, audio design, aesthetic design, Immersive Sim stuff. SS1 combat is pretty terrible (it was designed around the same time as the first FPS games, so this is to be expected), and isn't a very balanced experience, but still has a lot of things going for it. SS2 is a perfection of these concepts in most ways, especially how it infuses RPG elements with the survival horror FPS gameplay.

The fuck? Sure, it tells you where to go and what to do a bit more than SS1 does, and it's less labyrinthine, but the rest is all player-driven hardcore stuff. Much deeper combat and systems. Really the pinnacle of Immersive Sim RPG design.
Prey looks cool, but I'm still waiting on that Harcdore patch that re-enables weapon degradation, limited O2, trauma systems, etc. Some modders are already doing it.
