>Steam removing Greenlight because they don't trust their users anymore

How did PCu-cks ruin such a simple system?
>>
>>385210597
>so broken that porn games gotten through

nothing of value was lost
>>
>>385210597
I've been given loot at conventions to vote for green-light games. I've been begged by people I know who tried to get their game onto there to shill it. The system was corrupt at every level and only led to unscrupulous practices.
>>
>Everybody says Greenlight is shit and nothing but trash gets through
>Instead of fixing the system, Valve just removes it

Amazing
>>
>>385210661
Reminds me of the early days of anime popularity, when you'd find hardcore porn on the shelf right next to Sailor Moon dvd's.
>>
>>385210695
Now people can post their games without ANY sort of filter

Great

>>385210762
>When I rented Ninja Scroll expecting hardcore porn but got pure anikino instead
>>
>>385210597
Simple, you don't let the userbase curate the stuff. You do it yourself
>>
>>385210835
>without ANY sort of filter
100 buck fee which is returned if the game passes a certain threshold of sales.
>>
>>385210932
Greenlight had a $100 requirement too - so things are actually worse now.
>>
>>385210835
>Now people can post their games without ANY sort of filter
>Great

they've been doing that for years now by latching onto some no-name publisher and bypassing the whole greenlight process

you think all the nonsense shit on steam passed through greenlight?
>>
>>385210704

Valve did need to remove it though, and they need a totally new system. But even then Steam Direct won't do much, because they are not going to bother curating content.

inb4 cuck if a developer decides to put his game on Steam in the first place he is giving Valve a 20% cut of each sale. That 20% cut should be justified to users in the form of content moderation, so Steam isn't overfilled with garbage phone game ports and half-finished projects that don't run. Steam should be a store, not moddb or gamebanana.
>>
>>385211065
>Steam should be a store
It is a store, it's just a store run by unethical jews.
>>
>>385210932

$100 won't stop shit, that's like a day of work in a shitty mcjob. Valve should start it at $5,000. I'm serious, anyone serious about making a game they expect to sell copies of can get a business loan. Otherwise more and more shit will flood in as people treat Steam not as a professional store but as a mod site.
>>
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=939585329
>>
>>385211184

yeah and they are only hurting themselves by entertaining even more unethical jews, scammers, and retards who abuse their website. What I'm suggesting is not unreasonable even if we assume Valve is pure evil, because if things continue as they are Valve will only get caught up in a larger pissing match (kind of like with csgo gambling) which other jews (eg, casino operators or banks) will fuck them over.
>>
>>385211296
Looks like a game made by mc millen.
>>
>>385211296
What's this? A Binding of Isaac homage?
>>
>>385210762
what did they had on the shelves back then anon?
>>
>>385210993
>they've been doing that for years now by latching onto some no-name publisher and bypassing the whole greenlight process
You didn't even need to do that, you could just stack the vote with bots and thirsty third worlders who were promised a free copy for voting yes.

The system wasn't the problem, people are naturally inclined to corrupt it. It's basically communism, can work in theory but not in practice.
>>
>>385210886
>>385211663
Self moderation is even worse, because Valve/Steam removed Hatred at first until Gaben slapped around Lombardi to put it back.
>>
>>385211797
Change people into "russian scums" and we can agree. Valve should ban all russian devs of making games. 99% shovelware gone.
>>
>>385211974
russians are fucking up steam now? when will their cyber-terror end?
>>
>>385211974
>>385212017
Russia manipulated all those greenlight votes.
>>
>check out steam direct
>it's just a $100 fee for each game you want to publish
How's it gonna stop crappy indies again? They were talking about a $1000 fee and that was much more reasonable.
>>
Anyone remember Xbox 360's indie marketplace? Greenlight is like if the indie marketplace was mixed in with their actual store.
>>
>>385212175
>Anyone remember Xbox 360's indie marketplace?
All I remember was worthless <1$ games and 100 "games" to transform your controller in a masseuse by making it vibrate.
>>
>>385212175
I fucking loved that shit, especially with the free trial that every game offered. Miner Dig Deep and there was a fishing game I liked, where after enough upgrades, you hooked another island and reeled it in to be with your true love.
>>
>>385212113
500 would've been perfect i think, 1k seems a little steep
>>
>>385212017
Russians are the fake devs Valve mentioned. Those piece of shit make fake games with shitty cards then give thousand of keys to their bots so they can farm cards and resell them.
>>
>>385212306
Whatever, but $100 is not going to change anything, the store will be the same ocean of shit that it's always been after Greenlight.
>>
>>385212404
at least steam claims that they will test the games first

Good. Shit games need to be removed and they should charge thousands to put your game on steam.

When I was growing up you could play barebones indie games for free on sites like Miniclip or Amazing Flash Games. Now you see the same kind of shit on Steam where people seriously think they can sell it for like 10 bongs
>>
>>385210597
Because of cards.

Seriously, the only reason Greenlight fell apart is Valve's fuckretarded trading card badge crafting metagame for morons.

Because someone realized that the easiest way to get cards is just to idle in game menus, which means more games = more cards. And, ironically, the cheapest way to get more games is to make a game, because making a game gives you access to unlimited keys for that game. So if 500 people all make a "game", and all of them agree to vote each other through in exchange for a free key to install the game, then BOOM! everyone got 500 games, and 500 games' worth of cards.

And since the Greenlight fee was a one-time developer fee, you can sell those cards to make back your $100, and then repeat the process with a second "game" from everyone.

Suddenly the entire store is an ocean awash with barely passable tax-dodge-tier faux games.

The solution, obviously, is to rework the trading card system so it's not a literal incentive to produce kusoge, but nobody at Valve is gonna stand up and say "let's fuck with the system that makes us 90% of our revenue".
>>
>>385212175
I remember using the free trail to actually complete a game or two.

There was one game that was just a collection of 100 lolcat jpegs.
>>
>>385212298
I played one or two decent ones.

>"games" to transform your controller in a masseuse by making it vibrate.

The shame was that the XBLA indie market came about during the height of the App Store craze and everyone thought they'd be clever by giving you some unique, handy function instead of an actual game.
>>
>>385212686
I don't use steam too often, what are cards and why would people buy them?
>>
>>385212620
This isn't a change to remove bad games from the store you got it all wrong.

Early access is not being removed you dumbass, its the process to get your game on to steam that is being modified to be more efficient, how about you learn to read what steam direct is you stupid dumb gayboi.
>>
>>385212620
Valve shouldn't jew people over with an expensive charge like that
>>
>>385214430
>$100
>"expensive charge"
Do you live in some African village or something?
>>
>>385214430
The fee is a filter, it's not Valve jewing good developers, because the fee is recoupable if you sell more than $1000 in games. If your game isn't shit it's basically free to publish on Steam. They should've gone with a $1000 fee recoupable after $10000 in sales to stop crappy indies.
>>
>>385214563
You don't have a lot of reading comprehension don't you? He wasn't talking about $100 being as expensive, he was replying to the other guy who said the fee should be expensive.
But from your African comment I guess you're a poltard, I guess I can't expect much from you.

>>Steam removing Greenlight because they don't trust their users anymore

It's not that they don't trust the users, it's that companies are abusing it by cheating the system.

Some of them pay companies just to make new accounts to vote their own games. Others bribe users with free shit.

And in the case of a certain sjw that made depression quest... she lied about wizardchan going to steam just to downvote her crap. Got so much attention and even got game websites like kotaku to shill her lies that Steam gave her game another chance. By then she got enough suckers to upvote Depression Quest. Wizardchan were demonized for shit they never did.

Also the anti-Anime fags get all mad when they have to see big anime tiddies on the front page.

The best way to fix it is only allow downvoting.
Nobody needed to vote to say a game is good, but shit games needed policing.

Steam Greenlight was just an experiment to get enough data from users. Now they just use machine learning to weed out Steam Direct submissions based on all previous data.
>>
>>385215859
Why even have a voting system? Why not have people pay to test games and the ones that are a certain degree successful will be passed.
>>
Because PC-ucks are lazy dirty smelly pirates neets with no actual useful skills.

>>
>>385215996
They should just go back to their old and previous standards.

Either have a publisher release your indie shit who deems it substantial enough or have a working demo, a website and another website's review about the demo to get on steam.
>>
>>385215996
Because that would mean valve will have to pay these people.

Considering how low wages are in Russia when you convert them into dollars, and the fact that one single round of fake games let them make up the initial $100 fee, I would so yes.
>>
Hecha la ley hecha la trampa

scammers will always find a way to fuck up your systems for easy profit.
>>
Why do crapitalists advocate a free market when it only gives leeway to subhumans to peddle their low effort garbage? They need more hefty regulations so we as the consumer don't have to be subjected to such waste and so devs are forced to produce actual quality.
>>
So much garbage on greenlight, I've literally got dozens of game keys for free that I'll probably never even touch.
>>
>>385210597
Had the system been like Newgrounds, where you gain representation or punished if submissions pass or fails, and where constant user activity had more influence. The system would not be gamed. Who would vote wrongly if they would lost something off their account? Who would cheat if the ones with more games, levels , and achievements in good games had more power and had something to lose?
