Really depends on game mode and even specific missions.
In the end it gw wasn't about which class is the best, but about party composition and the synergy between the members.
>>
>>385201953
Elementalist is high variance, I only liked earth and water.

Monk was the least interesting class outside of the original low health protection memery.

Mesmer was the best profession in the game.

Ranger and Necromancer were kinda middle of the road. Good and simple with a few interesting points sticking off. Ritualist was superb though.

Warrior and Assassin are the two other best professions in the game and provide the most interesting stuff cross-profession.

Dervish was a bit too simple but the visual and play style was really good.

Paragon was really well designed and up there with the other four I've praised, the only issue that it had was that it was too strong a lot of the time.
>>
>>385201953
Paragon was my favourite and main class.

You could pull off some massive AoE damage reduction with the right build pretty much constantly, and it was just the most fun to play out of all the classes.

Mesmer was my second favourite, such a well-designed class.

Why live

But seriously, GW had such amazing potential for creative and interesting build composition. I had a paragon sword build that worked by applying burning to everything in the area.
I have no idea why they got rid of cross classes and choosing skills in GW2. Like I can't imagine why they did it. It makes me feel a little sick to be honest. RIP GW
>>

>Hall of Heroes
>enemy has six rangers
>traps literally everywhere

Low cost high use elite skills > big ones
Water trident or blinding surge were so much more satisfying than say, savannah heat

Actually it's

GOD TIER
>Mesmer
>Paragon

GOOD TIER
>Necro
>Ranger

MID TIER
>War
>Monk
>Rit
>Ele

BORING TIER
>sin
>dervish

Problem was with sins and dervishes was their special stat wasn't that good. They had a couple fun gimmick builds and that's it. Rits also had a boring special stat, but were original and were interesting to play because positioning was so important. Cool animations too. Monks were fun when playing prot/smiting, zealots and RC builds were dope, plus some interesting stuff like that enchantment Rez they had. Not a good cross class though, unlike warriors who are the best cross class in the game with the incredible Tactics tree. Shame the other trees were a bit limited in scope. Eles have a lot of build variety, but I felt often anything that wasn't SF or Savannah heat was just underpowered.

Necros and rangers are both great in that there are tons of ways to play them, minion master, beast master, touch ranger, BiP battery, trapper, and both their skills were really versatile

Mes are unparalleled in the right hands, nearly unstoppable if you are prepared and know your opponent, while paragons are just incredible again for their ability to build a skillbar around a specific situation, not only their own skill at but making the entire team complement it. and as long as they are in charge they can make great things happen.
>>
>>385204571
But savanah heat was fucking great, unlike those other 2 you mentioned. With some slowdown it could fucking melt.

However, I agree with the principle, I generally love high use elites like restore condition,
>>
>>385204586
You're right on Dervish being pretty one-dimensional, but Assassin was super fun.

Also as great as the profession is, that praise for mesmer is pretty silly. Of fucking course they can kick anything's ass if they know what they're facing ahead of time. You can do a full build to fuck up a specific type. That was what they did.
>>

>>
Why did they fuck up GW2 so badly? Why did they have to take away one of the best parts of my childhood? How could they not recognize the best parts of GW- instanced world for small teams to keep things balanced, customizable skill bar are second profession for fantastic build variety, etc.
This isn't rhetorical. I'm searching for answers but I can't find any. Why did they destroy their own game?

sub-level 20 in factions is still the starting area, so yeah.

And what do you mean lurkers? Lurkers typically have a reason to go into a thread and I don't see many people ignorant to the topic wandering into this one.

>>
>>385205046
>Why did they fuck up GW2 so badly?
it's a mystery. They had a nice unique game with GW1, then they threw it all away. I guess someone in charge really liked world of warcraft and wanted to copy it.
>>
>>385205046
I don't know man, they could have kept at least a few of the things that set GW1 apart like secondary classes, unique resource management, skill build customization, etc. But instead they made the most sterile, bland world with some of the worst combat I've seen in any mmo. And they took a giant dump on the lore too.

So they just made a WoW clone? They didn't even look at what made the first game unique, and what kept it alive in that era of samey MMOs. GW had some of the best PvP I've ever seen in any game, let alone an MMO (it had best MMO PvP by a mile) as well as really fun instanced PvE. The servers are still up and running. You'll even come across players from time to time.

The game aged rather poorly though. Graphics wise it still looks good due to a solid art style. But the mechanical and gameplay side of things might feel a bit wooden. You can't jump, navigating terrain can sometimes be a bit awkward, clunky UI (which you can completely customize though), that sorta stuff.
Still, if you can get past that rudimentary 3D game feel the game has a lot going for it. You can beat all the story missions solo if you have no friends to play with just fine. The soundtrack and general atmosphere of the world is still superb.

>>385205785
No, the going into random threads thing.

And your reading comprehension is truly fucked. Not everyone that played GW will be in this thread. But everyone in this thread will have played GW. So unless you're going to shove that strawpoll over the entire board in dozens of threads over a seven day period actually coming up some some realistic number of "how many people on /v/ played GW",(of which people being annoyed enough to fuck with the poll will disguise anyway), then all your poll can hope to measure is the number of people in this thread who played Guild Wars. and the answer to that question is probably all of them, considering this is a guild wars thread.
>>
>>385205793
This is pretty much the problem. There's nothing new to see in the game anymore. There's no one else around to team up with for missions and the game's gradually bleeding more players every year. We can't go back, sadly.

GW1 is one of the few MMOs I can think of that didn't have grinding. There was farming, but it wasn't a mindless death fest where you had to just walk forward and attack. You needed specialised builds and to think carefully about every encounter. Even stuff like 55 monk needed you to pilot the build at least slightly competently. That's what made it so satisfying when you were rewarded with cool stuff like torment gemstones.

It had an excellent loot system. Just by playing the game you found all kinds of stuff that you'd either use for yourself or or your heroes, or be able to sell for stuff you'd want. Stuff like rare colours, keys and unids kept even basic gameplay exciting. Then there was farming, which really inspired the community to great lengths. You could farm everything, from pure gold to unids to rare mats to rare skins and so on. Enemies were challenging, so you'd have to cook up very specific builds to farm stuff.

The title system naturally played into this, because many of them were huge goldsinks to keep the economy sane. I fondly remember dumping all my gold into keys and doing chest runs over and over, and enjoying it.

Warrior/Ranger where I just went pure warrior.

What zones did you cunts like the best. I was a Kurzick lad but the Jade Sea always struck me as far more interesting.

I like Nightfall the most overall though. But then I've always like arid environments.

>random stupid RA builds

>rapid fire 1/4 cast ranger that overpowered enemies with energy stance elite
>W/N plague touch headbutt warrior that chased monks around perpetually dazing them
>E/A teleport knockdown into earthquake/aftershock assassin
>N/Me oppressive gaze necro + extend conditions, doing nothing but spreading conditions
>Painful Bond Rt attack spirit spammer that would plant 5-6 bound spirits in a pile
>only moderately effective smite healer that was still fun but worked pretty well if you got another monk or Rt
>IAS Dervish that did nothing but max out attack speed to delivery on-hit effects: "the lawnmower"
>Ranger BM with a staff that put everything into maxing out pet damage, causing it to hit nearly twice as hard as a normal build would

>GW2 builds
>guess I'll stack a bunch of passives on myself...

Trap ranger wasn't super effective in AB, but it was fun as shit just for the salt.
>lay cripple, knockdown, and burning traps in popular lanes for running
>see enemy limping around at half health
