They're dungeon crawler RPGs, make a party of 5, explore a big ol dungeon in first person, combat is a turnbased classic JRPG. They're grindy as fuck (compared to today's usual RPG) and often extremely difficult if you don't know what you're doing, and they're not visually flashy - battle animations are basically lower effort than an RPG Maker game.
