They just somehow believed Gordon Freeman was the most iconic character in gaming despite not being playable in the expansions.
So they made all these signature things for him no one even remember pulled together some bullshit lore in 10 minutes using the one plot point that was explained in HL1 and called it a sequel so they could sell their engine.

And then he ended up becoming one of the most iconic characters in gaming so fuck me I don't know anything
