In the end all that matters to a corporation is making money. Even an IP like DBZ can't stack up against Marvel. Both games will flop and will lose fans in a month just like every other Arksys game. Xrd is on life support, BB is dead and people are already losing hype for DBZ. Not to mention the DBZ beta is the same week as Marvel's release date.

Consider the following:

DragonBall has brand recognition, but it is a fighting game first and foremost.
If you go to any place outside of here, including reddit, the expectations of the game lie somewhere between Naruto fighters and Budokai, neither of which were made with competitive playerbase in mind. Will people buy the game? Yeah, but you will very quickly see used copies pile up. Most people will not stay for GG mechanics.

Even when you get to competitive playerbase at its core, the game is going to have issues retaining it. Recall SF3 dying after US playerbase getting fucked at EVO. Let's say the playerbase grows and then decides to compete. Chances of someone getting top spots at EVO are slim, and given that ArcSys does not have a history of supporting the playerbase in the west (contrary to how MvC ALWAYS has massive sponsorships compared to other games), it is unlikely that playerbase will stick around.

The same can be said about BBCTB, and if you recall how much of a shitshow P4U is in general, no one is going to look forward to getting fucked 100 to 0 without some incentive in it.

Does MvCi look very stale and depressing? Yeah, sure. Is it going to retain its playerbase? Likely. Is it still going to get more competitive support than MvCi and DBFz? Also likely.
