Consoles are really popular among college students because it's much easier to move around an Xbox than a desktop and doesn't take as much space. Also it's much more accessible for casual gaming and gaming with friends/roommates.

Consoles are getting pretty good at branching out too, it's online capabilities are still obviously not as good as PC but most streaming/vod services have decent apps that can be used easily.

I've only played Uncharted 4 and I liked the simplicity and honesty of it. It's a no-brainer blockbuster with shit exploding everywhere that is led by a generic story that isn't that bad if you don't take it too seriously. You know what PCs have that put them miles above consoles? Their libraries. I can play a game from 1998 if I wanted to. It makes take some tweaking to play an older title but it's still lightyears above game that are lost on the Xbox/PS2/PS3/360, in order to play those games you need the console and to find the media itself and for a lot of Xbox and PS2 games they're rare as hell.

That isn't why. The OS doesn't use that much resources. It's because consoles had the advantage of being able to be optimized for 1 CPU and 1 GPU so the game dev would know exactly how a game would play in any environment, repeatably. They could design engines to take advantage of this and use tricks (optimize) to really squeeze all the power out of a console.

But this type of optimization is really horrible for the developer. It's a lot of extra work to offset the weak specs. Great for consumers but bad for developers.
