I still haven't played through this, I don't know why. Playing it feels vaguely empty, uninvested... Partially PC performance autism on my part and I think also knowing that it's actually truthfully basically entirely unconnected. Can someone explain ending C to me. It's the only ending I don't understand. What did A2 mean when she claimed she had a way to save 9s from the logic virus. Where did the pod take 9S after and did whatever A2 was planning work, or did he get fucked? Did A2 die when the tower collapsed? What did she do, if anything to the Ark? Why did she touch the white light? Did she destroy the Ark before it could be launched? Did she upload something into it?

The machines didn't die out or go mad after the tower broke down/some went into space, at least according to the timeline from the strategy guide. They actually established a peace treaty with the androids shortly after, and 500 years later established a monarchy among themselves and had a civil war with each other. The androids are kinda just chilling now I guess. There's really no source of conflict left on the earth anymore, since the machines are no longer a threat. I guess you could hunt down the androids responsible for project Yorha, but that would just be meaningless revenge for something that's over. Maybe something about the machine adventures in space? With corrupted 9S taken along for the ride.

I've read enough wacky literature to know that playing around with structure only gets you so far, and often comes down to the writer getting in their own way over some very simple points. That's not always the case, but it happens, especially in the case of Taro with Nier/Automata. I'd say his most effective use of recontextualizing was routes A/B of the first game, the rest is hit and miss.

And his absolute best use of alt. routes in general was in Drakengard 1, no other game's routes hit the same level of variety and being able to stand as their own experince.

Taro being le epic dev is, by far, one of the worst memes on /V/, and the fact that people defend the filth that is DoD shows that this place is just contrarian city.
