What microphone do you use for team games?

No streaming or "lets play" recording bullshit.

Blue Yeti is probably the most promoted mic, not really cheap, is it the "default" choice?

I've seen someone mentioned "mod mic" and it looks pretty interesting considering the price and the option to just stick it on headphones.

And I don't use some gamer trash headphones, I use Sennheiser HD-650 so I'd probably like the option to just stick a microphone to them.

What's about the quality though? Does it have any amplification?
>>
>>385160467
this, but I got mine on sale

*chips crunch*
*burp*
*OK MOM IM COMING I JUST HAVE TO FINISH THIS ROUND*

Desk mics > headset mics.
>>
>>385160369
Blue yeti is just a snowball in a fancy case, save some money and buy a snowball instead.

That being said, USB mics are pretty shit for the price, but they're easier than setting up a real microphone with an amp and all that nonsense.

>>385160481
Modmic is decent, it's leaps and bounds above anything you'll find in a headset. Nice headphones + a decent modmic are the way to go if you're looking for a "headset" solution.

Don't know if they have any amplification but they're plenty loud based on my experience.
>>
>>385160792
So mod mic then? I don't give a shit about "streaming performance" or anything like that, just need a decent mic that would work well for coop.
>>
>>385160691
I don't get the correlation between headset mics and what you just said, and I don't even use a headset mic.
>>
>>385161073

I use Yeti, but the Snowball is good for budget when you get it on sale. Then buy the innogear arm or whatever the fuck it's called for 10$ and keep in mind the Snowball doesn't have a mute button.
>>
>>385161426
There's not a bunch of static or background noise everytime I cue it, if that's what you're asking. I would look up some youtube videos of people using it, that should be a good metric for you.

You should really do that for any mic, honestly.
>>

>>
>>385162372
Maybe you have god awful speakers / headphones, the static is LOUDER than you speaking. It's almost like feedback, do you have the mics cable near any power cables or something? That sounds terrible and you would be muted immediately if I had to listen to that static on an open mic.

Come on man, I know the guy you're responding to is being a bit of a dick but your argument really only applies if you don't have a couple extra bucks to throw around and a couple minutes to do research. I don't understand this culture of discouraging people from buying nice things that work better just because there's a cheap or free alternative.

Amazon for around $60 or something plus an extra $5 for a pop screen filter thing

I went with black for the classy look.

Sound quality is great.

My only complaint at first was how bright the LED on the front was but after connecting the pop screen it made the LED far less bright.

I don't like leaving my microphone on because I'm from /pol/ and if you've spent some time there, you probably know why.

After unplugging and plugging the miniusb, month after month, I've noticed the port has loosened a bit.

Aside from that, great mic.

You absolutely don't need a Mic that good for just playing with friends. Just get a ModMic.

>>385160691

I mean, shit next to your mouth yeah. That's just being rude though. USB mic are condenser microphone 99% of the time and headset microphones are dynamic. Condensors are FAR more sensitive, meaning the desk mic will pick up fucktons of room noise. I have mine on a boom arm sitting about three feet away from my face and it still picks up my breathing and mouth noises even at a really low gain.

That's exactly it, I'm saying to get a dynamic microphone if you can. Shit like the AT2020 and Yeti which are commonly recommended will pick up room noise even though they have a cardioid pattern. You're pretty much stuck with them if you want to use a USB microphone though, which in certain situations is the only way to go.

>>
>>385165128
Read literally any review about condenser microphones, they're far more sensitive and pick up everything, it's the way they're designed. If you have an imperfect setup (i.e.: your average desk setup), a dynamic is a better choice. It's the reason actual, big time streamers and podcasters use stuff like the Shure SM7B, Heir PR40, and Electrovoice stuff. Just far more forgiving for vocal only stuff.

This sounds like a reason to get a better mic to me? I also often end up muting people who have crappy mics as it can be really distracting. If your mic is an actual bother to people, you should just type.

Mod Mic is pretty good. Though you will need to pick up a cheap USB audio adapter to isolate the white noise if your computer's onboard audio is shit. After you've done that the quality is superb. Infinitely superior to desk mics.

>>385167818
Microphones are pretty shit in general. It's a huge thing for people in the audio world to go through dozens of them before finding something that works for them. Cheap ones are even more prone to issues and bullshit.

Modmic is probably some sort of grounding issue, try plugging it into something else and see if it still does it. PC front panel/audio inside your PC is notoriously shit and prone to a lot of interference.

But yeah, microphones basically suck and are a pain in the ass.
>>
>>385166567
You seem to be misunderstanding what I'm typing. I'm not saying a 100€ mic is the same quality as a 20€ mic. I'm saying they'll both last if handled and treated well and that it's pointless for me to spend that much cash on a mic when all I use a mic for is voice chatting. If I was into, I dunno, streaming or some shit? Sure, expensive mic it is. It's not prohibitive to buy when it's justified to spend that sort of money. But it's pointless. You know what pointless means?

For the record, I'm using my laptop's shitty inbuilt mic, it has never given me any problem and sounds just fine, the only background noise ever being the extremely loud fan that I can probably muffle away if I lower the capture volume.
>>
>>385163264
I don't use push to talk but I'm almost exclusively in calls with friends, I almost never use mic in game. If something starts causing background noise, like my dog or another person talking, I just mute my mic since my headset has a switch for it.
>>
>>385168067
XLR+audio interface is indisputably GOAT and gives you the most options, but it's total overkill for most people. Unless you're streaming or making content, don't bother. Interfaces get kind funky to deal with if you have a console in your setup as well.

You can get a pretty cheap interface these days though, might even be able to score a decent mic and one of the Scarlett things for under $100 if you shop used.

There is literally zero reason to spend more then 15 dollars on a PC microphone for gaming

LITERALLY

Here's mine I got it at Staples. It works 100% perfectly. Anyone who claims you need to spend more then 15 dollars to get a microphone that doesn't buzz/have noise/has good sound quality is delusional.

the issue usually arises from mobo's though, so you'd end up having to pay more than 15 bucks on one of those.

Also if you ever got into streaming, you'd end up having to change it up.

if you're looking to make an investment in a mic you might wanna go for a more expensive, high quality one. as for as affordable condenser mics go, though, i did a lot of research and it's pretty good. if you want good quality you gotta a) not boost the decibels and b) have it right in front of your mouth, like real close. thus why i decided to boost the fuck out of it so i can recline in my chair, have it off to the side on a stand and talk fine.
>>
>>385171592
I've one of these for the last 7+ years. I just wrap it around my neck and it works pretty well.
You can also buy some foam to stick on it and it helps block breathing.

It's like comparing a Cadillac or Mustang to a Lincoln town car though. Yeah it's nice but roughly 8x more expensive. If you are trying to do an apples to oranges comparison they need to be within a similar price point.

As someone who's got professional experience, it doesn't matter what you're using for live broadcasts, like talking in a game. You can use a $5 mic on some moldable cable and sling it around your ear to get good quality. What matters largely is the soundcard or at the very least some hardware amp.

Getting a studio quality mic is nice and all, but it requires a lot of hardware finetuning to get a crisp and clear sound - something which makes no sense to attain when a youtube codec is just going to destroy anyway.
