Huh? How do you figure that? It doesn't have the physics, the levels are blocky as fuck (as opposed to the smooth curves and set-pieces of the classics) and the direction you're supposed to be headed in is way less clear-cut. Not to mention, we haven't seen any zone gimmicks that closely resemble anything from the classics and we know they had every intention of adding a whole lot of new moves for Sonic and brainstormed all kinds of zany shit like giving Knuckles top-down exploring levels.

The only thing X-Treme had in common with classic Sonic is that they hadn't made the switchover to a new Sonic design. It shared none of the physics, little of the gameplay and none of the developers.

I think the continuity in S3&K is by far one of the best things it handles and it's probably my favourite aspect of the game weirdly. Fuck the build up from the beginning of Lava Reef with the Death Egg getting closer in the background to it leaving the volcano in Hidden Palace is so fucking excellent.

Sonic The Fighters? I'd say so, it's got some interesting mechanics like the barrier and hyper mode. Most people tend to shit on it though because "m-muh sonic spinoffs are bad lol who are these ocs???" and never really bother learning how to actually play the game, which is a shame because the movesets are pretty simple compared to other 3D fighters. You know what really changed my life? Learning the little flash shield of Sonic's in 3 wasn't a fucking shield but a hit box extension meant to help attack.

I've seen people say that, but I don't think there's really a definitive tier list for the game. All of the people I've seen that have been really good at the game either play Sonic, Amy, or Bark. Also, I'd recommend buying the 360/PS3 port of the game for online matches, but I'm pretty sure the community is dead.
