If you really want to use lance, gem in the guard up skill.

Guard up allows you to block the vent attack. I had it for laughs on my GS set and I was blown away at just how much I could block. Almost ruined GS for me, because it allowed me to get extra greedy with attacks and block incoming attacks for chip damage. Once I stopped using that set I was the most worthless GS user and got hit by EVERYTHING. Still, that set was an incredible amount of fun

Bows are and will always be shit, LBG/HBG are more balanced in general, the only bow you should use in 4U is the Seregios bow.
