Russia won because it played smart, an utilized the fact it could throw literal millions of bodies at a problem until the problem went away.

German tanks were undeniably better than Russian tanks for the entirety of the war. The problem was that Hitler, being an idiot, was obsessed with having the most technologically advanced everything. So when they developed a better tank, most of the factories got shut down for months while they updated them, fit in the new parts, etc, and then started cranking out the improved version. Then they'd figure out how to do it better, shut it all down again, rinse and repeat.

Russia, on the other hand, predominantly used only a handful of models widely throughout the entire war. And fucking cranked out thousands upon thousands of those little shits like the world was ending. Didn't really matter that by the end of the war they could get 1-shot by even average German tanks when every tank-battle was Russians outnumbering German tanks by like 5:1 or more.

I never understood the realism argument in tank games. They don't do anything to simulate vision limitations or anti-infantry capability so you end up with tank prototypes with little to no weak spots up against real vehicles that are covered in vision slits and machine-gun ports.

If they're going to ignore two key elements of tank design, why not just balance the vehicles so they're fun instead of letting some remain garbage or overpowered because of 'realism'.

No, the turret was a SHOT TRAP, or more precisely if you shoot at the lower part of the gun mantlet, the shot might bounce down and through the thin top armor of the hull. This way even small caliber guns could penetrate it's armor from the front.

That's why later the gun mantlet was redesigned to pic related instead of the earlier rounded one, so that shots just couldn't bounce down.

I play USA, and the only ussr tanks which give me trouble are the it1 and t10m. The t34 series are easy af to crew wipe.

Russia won by basically having no regard for the lives of its people. It's barbaric, but, it worked. So, we glorify it now.


Russian tanks were trash and the games are often designed in such a way to just not bother simulating the things that made Russian tanks terrible.

Horrific suspension, nobody being able to see out of the thing, occasionally KOing the loader or gunner after firing a shot. Sloped armour being ineffective at range due to the arc of a shell. Being able to turn the turret, load the gun, aim the gun and drive over rough terrain at top speed, all at once.
