I think we should break this down more.

Take into account your average PS4 owner probably buys three games a year.

Platform's been out for four years. Somebody that got a PS4 in year one probably has bought about 10 games right now, and most of those are in annualized franchises.

Your average /v/ goer? The kind of person that posts on NeoGAF or reddit's gaming boards or whatever? The kind of person that buys multiple titles a year, and goes hard in Steam sales in the summer? This segment of the gaming population has never been more than 5 million, 10 million at the most optimistic end of things. And that's been true since the PS1/N64 generation.

That's why PS4 can sell 60 million or whatever the number is at, but your most vaunted titles like Bloodborne don't crack the 3 million mark but they'll line up for your latest cinematic experience.

So the numbers would look better if you just exclude it to "full priced retail titles," like the kind of metric you would use for the PS2 or Wii where downloading full priced games wasn't really a thing, but going off what those titles are would look a less interesting than the PS2 or Wii which would be much more diverse.
