In games like diablo 3 it's fun to get upgrades for your items frequently, I'm sure it's same for poe. And when the developer then increases the droprates or whatever, the players quit playing even faster because they max out sou quickly and then there is nothing to do.
Developers can be retarded but I'd trust even less on the people begging on forums etc.
