How would you go about implementing it? I'd like all four of them mapped to a button like Valkyrie Profile, but they don't seem to like the idea even with just three characters.

Because Wario wouldn't get a fair share of the game. I'd want to see Wario-esque elements, but it'll be a predominately Mario-based setting first and foremost. Now in this day and age I don't think anyone can do Wario correctly, and I'm talking Wario Land Wario, not WarioWare.
