>friend recommends me a game
>play 8 hours
>find it boring as shit
>"anon you have to play at least 100 hours to start liking it"
>"bro I'm not investing 100 hours of my energy on that shitty game"
>"well then, sorry for your shit taste"
It is said that you have to watch at least 3 episodes of an anime to find out whether you will like it or not.
What is the minimum amount of hours you should play a game to find out where you will like it or not? It sure as fucking hell isn't 100 hours.

30 minutes max

Games aren't anime /a/fag.
Once you get through the first level, you either like it or you don't. From there, you enjoy or despise it more and more.
>>
outside of shit like strategy games, if you don't like it after 30 minutes just give up
>>
There should be enough content showcased within the first hour of gameplay to let you know whether or not you like the game.

You can still try and force yourself to like the game, and you might succeed, but within the first hour you'll definitely know.
>>
>>385070684
I get the feeling you're talking about Warframe because I had an eerily similar experience with my brother's ex-girlfriend.
>>385070862
"Shomin Sample", I think.
>>
>>385070684
Depends on the length of the game and how much the gameplay evolves, if at all. For most games, an hour or two is enough. If you can't see yourself enjoying the next 10+ hours, why bother?
>>
>>385070684
hey wait a minute i hate anime why am i getting erect
>>
Sorry OP did you say something?
>>
>>385070801
You'd waste 10 hours on a game you don't like?
>>

ONE OF US
>>
>>385070684
It depends on the game, but I think I usually give games up to like four hours before I decide if I'm gonna drop it or not.
>>
>>385070684
Depends on the game. I give more time to strategy games and RPGs since they tend to be longer but if an action/adventure game doesn't grab me in 3-4 hours then I usually lose interest.
>>
Depends on the genre and the development budget. Rule of thumb in the industry is the 15min rule. If your player isn't hooked after 15 mind chances are they will not finish it. If a game fails to give me something interesting in its first hour chances are in not gonna bother further.
>>
>>385071161
King Arthur, that's why.
>>
>>385071267
shit dude im gonna have to masterbait to cartoons wtf
>>
First hour or two to see if I will ever give a shit about it, and 5 to see if it will hold my attention.

Just dropped Killer is Dead two hours in today. I cannot stand how fucking boring the story is, and even worse, the one button combat that's so """""stylish""""" I couldn't tell what the fuck was going on. Pass.

you didnt make this thread to talk about video games

Why do I still come here? You faggots always want to have stealth porn/doujin threads by posting generic video topics while making the OP picture cropped porn or provocative shit. Fucking hell
>>
>>385070684
The way I go about it is if you're not having fun when the meat of the game presents itself, it's not worth your time. Doesn't matter how long you've been playing.

For most games, the second stage, or equivalent.
It's a common development tactic to produce the first stage or opening hours of the game last, after everyone is warmed up and has their shit together, and more effort is put into things like stage design and music in that first area as well.
Stage 2 or 3 is where you start to get an idea of how this game is actually going to be once the make-up comes off.
>>
>>385070684
Depends on game. A platformer is just a few levels (maybe one world worth), an RPG could be like 5-6 hours.
>>
I'd say 3 hours is a good estimate. I played probably 1.5 - 2 hours of Sticker Star when I realized what absolute trash it was gonna be. Only other game I regretted buying that much was Kirby Tilt n Tumble.

That said I played about 5 hours of Pikmin 3, didn't like it, started over with a different control scheme and pushed through and it ended up being one of my favorite games in a while.

It really depends I give RPGs, strategy games, and MMOs a lot of time, but with some games you just fucking know you don't like it.
Pic related for me, I just wanted to finish the trilogy for the sake of it and I regret all five hours.

8 hours seems more than reasonable. I'd say 2 hours, gameplay-wise, but sometimes a game's other elements, like the story, can suddenly get pretty interesting even if the game itself isn't too hot.
>>
>>385071928
>>385071476
I still have to finish season 2. Shame the actual plot prevents me from enjoying the PLOT.
>>
>>385070684
I always give it an hour for most games. And I give RPGs at least 2 since they have to develop the story before I get to the meat of the game. Don't believe the "YOU GOTTA PLAY X HOURS TO START LIKING IT" if you don't like it an hour in, move along.

It honestly depends, you develop a feeling for it. Some games, it's obvious you don't like them in the first 30 minutes - like when an FPS has unsatisfying guns and weird recoil/movement. Other games, you can sink 20 hours in and still dread it, because it's a game that's multiplayer and other players have much more experience and crush you, like RTS/MOBA games. Even though you'd love it if you were better, in some of the cases.

Some games, on the other hand, feel great in 2 hours (think if you got Destiny without ever hearing or reading anything about the game), because they gradually introduce new aspects, but then after 5 hours the game falls flat and you hate it because it's the same recolored shit that drops other shit you don't care about.

In a game you have to be emerged/invested in (think something difficult like Underrail or requiring a lot of knowledge not easily available like Dorf Fort), i think it's about the time you get to feel comfortable with the game's mechanics, which can be, for different people and different games, so it's hard to say for sure.

All in all, there's no certain figure. But hearing shit like "Oh, you've only played through 60% of the campaign, so you didn't even get to the good part" is infuriating, just like people dropping the game without finishing the tutorial.

It also all depends on the predisposition you have towards the game. If you expect unpolished shit walking in, all you're gonna see is bugs, bad design decisions and general flaws. If you know your friend who doesn't have shit taste approved it and it seems to be your kind of thing based on the info on the internet, you're willing to struggle for a bit more to "get into it" and forgive the game for some of the shortcomings.

For example, i advice quite a few people to play Fallout 2 just to know what kind of people they are. If they drop it before going to Den or something like that, you know a person is just too used to handholding and instant gratification.
>>
30 min, 2 hour max.

> Trying out Witcher Enhanced Edition.
> dropped game like 2 or 3 times in first 1 or 2 hours.
> once forced myself to breach my limit and go farther.
> access Wyzima, cathedral quartal.
> got sucked in immidiately
> beaten game 3 times, considering it a true gem.

Some games have a quite steep entry threshold, but generally they are fun. Eventually, 100 hours is far too much. By the way, what game it was?
>>
Thirty minutes to one hour. If it's not appealing to you by then you may put it in the trash.
>>

>If you expect unpolished shit walking in, all you're gonna see is bugs, bad design decisions and general flaws.

Literally me. I think i got so knowledgeable about genres i care about and refined my tastes in vidya so hard, no game produced nowadays can really satisfy me. So i can't really enjoy 99% of new games. So all that gave me is a thousand reasons not to enjoy new games and feel superior to people who enjoy games that aren't even good because their writing is horrible and gameplay lacks simple elements present in multiple games over the last 10 years. So now i just play games i know that are shit, so that when i get into a lobby with decent people, communication and all that shit, i get a pleasant surprise, but if i get retards all around, i get a satisfying "you knew this game was shit and you were right" feeling and an obligation to shitpost about it.

Fear is one of those series that gets more casualized as it progresses, dead space is another example.

Depends on the game

The tutorial part of most Persona games is like 20 hours long, so you have to play at least 25 before you can form an opinion
