you need an interest in well written dialogues, good plot, unique side-quests and unmarked quests and of course post-apocalyptic setting

Yeah, that's the quest that usually breaks the straw for me every time actually. Navigating through the basement, and then collecting parts for the rocket seem like such tedious work. There are ways to skip the quest, and carry on with the story, but I feel like I was supposed to be enjoying myself with that quest and I just... wasn't. That's why I thought the problem was with me, I have a feeling that the quest is perfectly fine but for some reason I can't enjoy it. I haven't played any of the DLC's, and from what I've seen they do seem fun, and I'd want to try them out. I'd recommend forcing yourself through until you reach New Vegas proper, which isn't that much further than Novac if you're going along the standard route. It really opens up once you hit the opening area of Freeside and much more so when you hit the Strip, deal with Benny and have all the options for the main quest appear to you. I think the game's enjoyable from the beginning so it's not a case of "it gets good 4 hours in" in my eyes, but there's a definite jump and being given much more choice after you're fairly railroaded through the opening U-Turn to Vegas might help engage you. If you're still finding it dull by then the game might just not be for you.

Well, for starters, I love the gameplay. Battles are so fluid and interesting, most of the time you have to craft a strategy based on your surroundings, and that really helps me engage in combat. The next thing, the world. The world of Shadowrun feels so believable and unique/interesting that it didn't take long for me to fully immerse myself in it. The first time I booted up the game, I spent at least 4 hours playing it before I realized I was getting sleepy. There's a huge variety of characterization from what I've seen so far. You can basically create any type of person that you want, and all of them seem believable. I don't really know if there's a one thing I like about Shadowrun, I think it's a collection of all of these. Oh I almost forgot, narrative is also a pretty big one. The story and characters just pulled me right in.

to OP: play until you get to Vegas, and never skip dialogue or any of that sort of stuff. Whenever I try to skip things and be as efficient with movement and time as possible, it's never fun, I used to HATE the Old World Blues DLC because I was never actually being part of the world, I was just running from one place to another. Don't run straight at markers, don't try to speedrun it, and seriously, DON'T skip dialogue, EVER, it makes the game way more enjoyable once you get used to it, which is very quickly.

You need to understand that FNV is not very mechanically impressive, despite having some improvements over F3 like iron sights, ammo types, hardcore mode, being somewhat of an actual RPG, etc and you could argue that it entirely changes your approach to playing moment-to-moment, but it's still generally bad gameplay. You're there for the atmosphere, the worldbuilding, the roleplaying, the discovery, etc

Hi

I'm replaying it for the first time in awhile. It's boring as shit until you get to the strip and talk to Mr.House.

I could barely trudge through the beginning side quests like Primm and those fucking cult ghouls(at first they're fun but it's tedious after you've already beaten the game) but now that I'm in the position where I'm neutral with most factions(NCR, GKs, Kings, Legion, etc) I'm having fun again just running around and getting side tracked with quest after quest.

Not sure who I'm going with in the end but this is the first time Benny is still alive in my game after sleeping with him. He's currently in Caesar's tent. Now that I got to actually talk to him, he doesn't seem like all that much of a bad guy. He'd make a great companion.

I like open strip and deactivated night vision on that one gas mask you get in Old World Blues. Those don't really change the game that much. One removes a loading screen, the other makes it so I can wear my favorite in game item without Night Vision.

I played through the game several times on 360 before I got a gaming PC and then bought New Vegas again for that.

But other people do love their mods for sure. I mean. I'm pretty sure there are multiple Fallout 4 Top 10 Mod showcase youtube channels with over 1M subscribers.

Fallout 3 is a far worse RPG (and game in general) as much as I love it too. The thing about F3 and especially 4 is that they shoehorn you into a role with a dad or a son meaning no matter what character you create your dad is an old white guy with a beard and your son is an edgy white guy. In NV you are just a Courier and you can mold your character into whatever you want it to be. Also the ability to ADS in NV was a vast improvement in combat and gameplay.

the writing is slightly worse and the gameplay is slightly worse and the roleplaying is worse in 3. New Vegas feels like the same game except with slight improvements. Movement is the same, shooting is basically the same. AI is the same. Fast travel and location distances are the basically the same. The only real differences is the MAP, enemies not scaling, the Choices, and the roleplay. Honestly if 3 has the same amount of factions and choices, and the same blank character, I would choose it as the better game, simply because I like DC more than the Desert.
