There is an insect in many Japanese video games who comes out in the summer months and makes the noise KWA. KWA. KWA. KWAAAAAAA. It is in Harvest Moon, the playstation cat game and I think maybe in Persona 4 and many others. Does anyone know what it is?

I see/hear them all the time here in Wisconsin
>>385041980
That shit's unsettling, I've thankfully never been around when they're all over everything but the idea of it gives me nightmares.
>>385041284
Cicada's are actually loud as fuck irl
>>385041895
In South Carolina they are like flies. That and the humidity makes me feel just like I'm in a japanese anime if that anime was about niggers.
>>385042415
Not all of them and not everywhere.
I have no clue about USA, but in Central Europe, where I live, cicadas live, but are mostly very, very small and barely noticeable sound-wise. Instead, we have crickets to provide the typical summer soundtrack.
>>385042663
We have some in cali and theyre pretty loud.
>>385041284
It's called a tsukutsuku-boshi you baka gaijin
>>385041895
Yea. Some areas get them yearly, others get those extremely loud 17-year rotation ones.
>>385042663
They're like a little arthropod jet engine in the South
>>385041895
euro here, we don't have cicadas at all

god created cicadas with the sole purpose of providing ambient audio in animes
>Japanese
Cicadas exist in the states too, dumbass.

I know what kind of noise the bigger ones can make. I've traveled through Japan - there were moments where we literally could not hear each other over them.
Also, one those so called "bear cicadas" flew right into my face - it was like getting hit by someone's fist.
My point is that not ALL of them are. I remember catching the fuckers by hand as a kid here, but their voice was barely noticeable compared to the crickets.
>>385043151
Wrong. They live across majority of Europe. You just haven't noticed them because they are small and relatively silent compared to the fucks that live in South and East Asia and - apparently - in U.S.

Cute!

bigger is better
As a kid I would hear Cicadas in the forest behind my grandparent's house, and those fuckers are LOUD, it's like a siren going off.
Deafness runs in my family and when I asked them what that buzzing noise was, no one knew what I was talking about. Drove me absolutely bonkers trying to figure out what that sound was; I felt like the forest was haunted cause only I could hear it. I don't think it was till I was a teenager that I played a game with Cicada noise that I learned what that weird shit was.
>>385042163
Same here
>>385043151
of course we have cicadas in europe

jesus christ how do flies get that big
cicadas are only okay in anima/vidya but they are awful in real life especially when they fucking fly and hit things so hard.
I can't believe people don't know what cicadas are
see this thread on /a/ sometime too with people acting as though it's some magical sound in anime

>MIN MIN ZEMI that go MIN MIN in the daytime and like to cling high up in the trees;
>HIGURASHI that go KANA KANA KANA, evoking a sad feeling in the early morning or evening;
>ABURA ZEMI that go JI JI JI JI in the daytime;
>TSUKUTSUKU BOSHI who from mid-August start out with a Jiiiiiii- and then go on to repeat TSUKUTSUKUBOSHI;TSUKUTSUKUBOSHI again and again before letting go with a WiiiiYO-SU and finishing with its original Jiiiiiii.

>Cute
Fuck these insect niggers. They shed everywhere. The trees, the cars, even on my fucking windowsill. I hate cicada so fucking much.
>>385045153
Well then not the ones around where I live.
>>385041980
>loud cicadas every year growing up
>siblings find out I'm afraid
>start putting the shells on my books and stuff
>once the shells no longer phase me they start capturing live ones to put near me
>waking up one morning to cicadas in my face
>remember finally grabbing them to release and realizing they weren't that scary
That's why I'm no longer afraid of cicadas. I got sweet revenge when I discovered they hated spiders though and they're still afraid of those today.
>>385043781
Maybe they're deaf because of fucking cicadas beat boxing 24/7
DID I HEAR SOMEBODY SAY CICADAS?
>>385041980
Grew up in Oklahoma as a kid and the cicadas were loud in the spring/summer and shells were everywhere.
>storm rolls in, everything becomes dark and still
>cicadas get quiet
>everything becomes quiet
>suddenly wind chimes on porch thrashing back and forth
>stations declare tornado warning and sirens replace the cicadas

Once every 17 years. 16 years left where I live
