HM2 had a stupid ending, you have a pretty good setup for a story with HM1, build upon it with new themes and events in 2. The loose ends are easily asking for a final third game, but then for no reason you throw in a nuke to make a point about how the game doesn't matter, despite the game showing no themes about this previously.
I wouldn't be so upset if the game actually had themes of nihilism and shit but it doesn't the nuke comes out of nowhere because he doesn't want to resolve this shit.
