Afterbirth has few good ones, when the composer stopped going for more industrial metal-esque sound. Which is obviously what Edmund likes when you listen SMB or BoI soundtracks.

2) Commercializing someone else's hard work, even if they died centuries ago, is morally dubious, and I doubt the composers would be particularly thrilled with the idea if you could ask them

this is like the only song I like from Rebirth. I have the game muted, though I haven't played it for that long. Most of the new music is so, so much worse. My biggest issue is that none of it really has any weight to it. It all feels like elevator muzak instead of an actual theme.

I wholeheartedly defend the clever use of Public Domain music to fund your first indie game project.

For a free game made in flash, like this "The end is nigh" videogame, you really need to cut as many corners and keep the costs down. Since you're providing a free product there are some liberties you can take.
