We will never get another Alpha Centauri game because EA owns part of the rights.

Good thing Alpha Centauri isn't a Civ game and was far superior to them then.
Doesn't copyright expire quicker if you don't use it to make anything with it? Why doesn't EA just sell the rights if they're not using them? Or at least get some studio to make a sequel.
It's not like there are any good space games being made

no. you can renew it and not use it up to about 100-150 years (depends on country)
Which is a moot point since EA only owns half he right (Firaxis owns the other half) and unless both come to an agreement EA cant make a new Alpha Centauri even if it wanted to.

there is always the chance for it and EA has done it in the past but so far there is no sign that EA is selling those IP rights. Also no one (aside from Firaxis) is even interested in buying since they'd only get half the right and not be able to do anything with it.
