P1 is hot garbage, Nanjo is the only saving grace along with some of the music

P3 really benefited from a strong emotional core - the music and the relationships between some of the characters all contributed to make the game particularly memorable.
There was some less amazing stuff though, like the daddy issues female characters, plus the Dark Hour and everything related to it causing you to suspend your disbelief 10 times over. I think P5 is the better game overall.

I wasn't so much comparing them in terms of how those worlds originated and plot stuff that's thrown at you at the end of the game, rather how immediately approachable they are as concepts right from the beginning.
In P3, the story goes out of its way to tell you that all electronic devices cease to work, but then out of nowhere Mitsuru comes in with her bike that just works because it's "special". Then you have to wonder how planes and time zones function and shit. I also feel it's not very well conveyed to the player that the Dark Hour indeed lasts just one hour because of how long certain story events last vs how much time you effectively spend in Tartarus, but that's just me nitpicking.
In P5 it's already a lot more sensible to have the palaces correspond to a sort of parallel realm, directly accessible through a mobile app.

It is good, it has the best story and character development. The main cast doesn't like each other from the start so they have to earn each other's trust through the difficulties that they experience together and their character development isn't tied to their Social Links, they take place as the story progresses. This my own personal opinion, but I also think the general theme and final boss are better than P4/5. I think accepting your own death in exchange to save all of humanity is much better than seeking the truth or rebelling against your oppressors, which both seem more or less selfish goals to me. Also SEES felt like the best team, the IT and PT were a bunch of lucky brats who had power yet stumbled across some other world and bullshit their way through or get plain old lucky and manage to save the world somehow. SEES right from the get go was more professional, they knew what they wanted to do(in the first part of the game at least), had support, backing and information from Mitsuru's family so no talking mascot who told you everything about some secret world and experienced Persona users who helped you and the other newbie Persona users get used to your powers, so everything was more or less natural in general.

The only flaws P3 has the lack of content, limited time to max out Social Links and the ability to get screwed over in fights by the party AI.

Persona 4 has better battle mechanics and pretty good social links IMO, but the ambiance is a lot more happy and uppity than Persona 3, which was a very dark world and many people didn't like, especially SMT fans who want grimdark plot.

Persona 5 is extremely stylish but the plot is pretty horrible IMO, and the characters are extremely one dimensional. The time management system is fucked (you have to constantly go to sleep and can't really explore as much, and most mornings you don't get to explore or do what you want, so you're a lot more limited. also, dungeons are huge to the point where they become frustrating and monotonous. The only real good thing about it is that the world looks nicer and is more open to explore, along with the plot and ambiance being a little more grimdark like people have been asking. Too bad the shitty plot and characters ruined it.

TL;DR: you'll have fun playing pretty much all of them but I would honestly play them in the order you're currently playing them, with Persona 3 being your first and then going on to Persona 4. If you play Persona 5 before 4, you might not be able to enjoy it as much.

The entire theme of the game was "remember you will die". Even without that it's pretty obvious, you get weaker and weaker coming up to the last day until you're so weak you can't move then you close your eyes and the game ends.

God no. Sure you can control your party members directly instead of indirectly but the combat was really simplified. It removed weapon types, physcial damage types, fusion spells, tactics, and knock downs taking a turn to get back up. I know knock downs were really exploitable in 3 because of that, but without that feature fights just become races to get all out attacks. They should have just added an enrage mechanic if you spammed knockdowns. For all of the improvements P5 made this was one of the two things that drag the combat down
