BLUF: What fighter should I play, and what is the difference

BLUF: What fighter should I play, and what is the difference between all them anime-lookin' ones?

Back in the 90s I played a lot of Street Fighter (through Super II Turbo), Tekken (through Tag), and Mortal Kombat (through 3). But now there are all these Dragon Ball (yes, I know they existed in the 90s but I didn't have access to them), BlazBlue, GuiltyGear, different versions of SF people argue over, Injustice, etc...

I played a little SF IV and MK 9. I liked them both, but they felt super familiar. I guess I'm looking for something different.

WHAT DO I PLAY? Right now I'm playing ARMS (does that count? Probably not) and KoF '98 (Clinton-era fighters FTW). I've been debating over Injustic/MK/SF V/Tekken 7 for a while, but then there are all the weeb fighters that I've never touched. Are they at all similar? What are the differences?
