I've lost interest until they fix the horrible desync and hit reg issues. They cry "It's teh unreal engine! We're trying to fix it and we've told Epic and they're working on it."

Epic doesn't work on shit for anyone specifically. The limitations of UE4 and multiplayer games is well known. I thought they had tuned it far enough to be stable with 100 players. I was wrong.

Great concept. Piss poor execution. Frostbite engine does not have these issues, but that would mean dealing with the devil (EA) and shifting the entire code base to a new engine. (Not going to happen.) Building a custom engine would take even longer and is beyond these mediocre devs.

Squandered potential.

>Frostbite
Laughing my ass off.
There's ONE company that can make full use of that shitshow, and that's DICE. Every other company forced to use Frostbite has had such a horrific time of it that half the DICE engine team had to go from studio to studio helping them figure out the buggy mess.
>>
Farmville confirmed for game of the decade.

No argument. But, if once the dice team showed you what was what or fixed it for you at least your multiplayer shooter would you know, register hits and maintain sync between clients and the server.

Thirdperson is basically wallhacking, the RNG in this game is beyond retarded, soloq is """decent""" until the point where you reach a area surrounded by houses and hills without having a scope and absolutely broken hitboxes/hitscan (using a shotgun in melee range feels very broken sometimes as example). Trying to play this game "competitive" or to win will just drive you insane, even the biggest nolifes or pros that have an overall playcount of 10k hours + in battle royale games say this shit. Can't wait for the dedicated firstperson servers which are about to be released.
>>

I don't think the relevance of the franchise had much to do with it. You are onto something with mentioning how its only selling point was the nudity, though.

The Arma engine was never meant for BR games where you're looting and shooting, it's maps are really large terrains with static building objects clumped together to alleviate the boring engagement distances with no cover that the other 90% of the map unfortunately provides you with.

This game has retained it's playerbase through corporate practices and not from the actual quality of the product, this is the sad world we live in now. Streamers are given graft to shill games, and raise "community awareness." People are given incentive to play through cash prizes. The product is advertised using large amounts of money that should otherwise have gone into improving the product in a more fair world, amounts of money that dwarf the actual development costs of the product in many cases. 95% of improvement of the product ceases when they are finished with the bare bones game, and they move immediately to a different project for the next cash grab while lying to your face. This is how it works now. The more stupid people that are born and don't get weeded out the more this flies and is effective. Get used to it.

This is the board that ranks Call of Juarez in the top 20 best games. I'm not defending PUBG but /v/ has a plethora of shitty opinions.
>>
I don't understand /v/'s hatred for this game.
It's a neat (if unoriginal) concept with no tacked-on story mode, microtransactions, paid DLC, or pandering

It's purely gameplay, and receives monthly updates with features that people are requesting (the upcoming first-person-only servers, for example)

Is it just because of the normie streamers?
>>
>>384996804
this, third person is fucking gay as fuck. You are supposed to be seeing your enemy, while also showing yourself.

It makes defending much easier than it is to attack. Very unrealistic gameplay, kinda shitty because of that. Would also prefer dedicated first person.

it's because it's popular.

The game has no cinematics, no paid DLC, the gameplay is a good balance between hardcore and casual with actual skill showing a difference and more. It's everything /v/ wants in a video game except it's popular with people so it's somehow bad because of it.

no queue times, easy to pick up, instant gratification, satisfying gameplay, rewarding af to play, tons of tense moments back to back, good devs that improve the game and add content at a good pace, one of the best party games out there imo, massive exposure on twitch

a combination of all those factors lead to 400k concurrent users at peak times

it does not remove the difference between someone very good and very bad. if i play chess i'm matched with equally bad players, but kasparov still kicks my ass in ten turns
>>
>>384998517
This is a good reason not to buy. However, it's not a good reason to hate on this game in particular.
>>
>>384993851
That's because the plebs here play games because they're too cowardly to live their lives, not because they are genuinely passionate about them. You'll notice it immediately in the types of games they praise.

>children's games
>effeminate JRPGs
>singleplayer games with sob stories
>multiplayer games you can get by without using a mic
>casual indies with funny drawn characters

etc.

Not too many well adjusted people here who really love video games. When you see someone who clearly craves adventure and the opportunity to demonstrate their bravery, then you know they love video games.
>>
They added first person servers yet? Until that's added the game is fucking horrible, gun play is fine but people that just sit behind a tree in thrid person ruin it.

Is that just because it's so damn popular or is there something in place to make matches start easier? Cause I mean, it seems to me to get together like 50 people or whatever would be a fair challenge down the line if the popularity wanes. And it's not like they can just join mid game.

If PUBG adds any of this shit, it's doomed. It needs to stay a $30 game with no microtransactions but I've got a feeling they'll be coming, maybe even before the game is finished if they're as gay as KF2 devs, we'll see.
And yeah, after playing Factorio, any crafting in any other game feels like trash now.
>>
>>385003929
it already has lootboxes, $$ for them is inevitable
>>
>>385003929
I think they have announed microtransactions after the full release for cosmetic items only. No crafting though.

I would prefer them to not exist at all, but if it's only cosmetics and only after release, I won't bitch. If they start spending time making clothes and shit because that's what will get them extra cash instead of actually developing the game, I'll be upset.
>>

This.

Have full kit going full tacticool camping til the end then move to a strategic position, then get a couple kills and make it to top ten. (Which is not always very fun when you got little to no encounters)

Or

Going full balls to the walls rush/panic punching people left and right, barely make it out alive them 30 secs later your in deep shit again clenching your butt cheeks to the max. Somehow make it top 20 even tho you had shit loot.

This is the only part I don't understand. The game is fun to play, but I can't understand how it would be fun to watch. I actually get watching LOL and Overwatch, but PUBG in my mind can only be enjoyed while actually playing, it's gotta be boring as hell to watch.

can someone explain me what this game is?
>>
>>385004606
Start off with nothing, dropped on an island with 99 other people, scavenge for weapons and armor, move to a randomly placed white circle before time is up or you'll die, the circle gets smaller and smaller as more people die so it will end up on a tiny patch of land as the last players are alive. Can play solo, duos, and 3-4 player squads against each other.
>>
>>385004606

>The game is based on previous battle royal mods developed by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games, expanded into a standalone game under Greene's creative direction. In the game, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. The available safe area of the game's world decreases in size over a match, directing surviving players into tighter areas and forcing encounters. The last player or team standing wins the round.
>>
>>385004536
You're probably right because /pubgg/ on /vg/ is constantly shit up with teenagers and thirdworlders who beg for someone to buy them the game for $30.

100 players start in an airplane going across an island. You can jump out whenever you want. The last person (if playing solo) or team (if playing duo/squad) to survive wins. You don't have any gear so you'll have to loot houses to find weapons, armor and healing items. There are vehicles to get around: boats, cars and motorbikes. After five minutes or so, the playable area gets restricted and if you're outside, you take damage. The player area, called the circle, gets smaller over time in intervals until it disappears. Later stage circles deal more damage. There are also care packages parachuting down with better loot (LMG's and extra powerful sniper rifles for example can be found in them for example). Looting them is often a death trap though since most people will see them landing.
There are performance issues and a couple of bugs but the game is also very fun, if you can deal with the third person perspective (first person only servers coming soon) and if you can deal with the RNG aspect.

I really don't get games like this. I always prefer my games to be immersive and provide and opportunity for escapism, but this entirely vanishes for me when there is no meta-mechanics and everything is lost at the end of the match.

I get playing competitive team-based games with friends, but judging from the comments it doesn't seem that battle royal games are really suited for team-play and heavy competition.

Why do people love to play these kind of games?
>>
>>385005064
It's over-represented on Twitch, for sure. Should be in the top ten viewed streams, but not number 2
>>
>>385005387
I like them in a similar way to roguelikes. I like starting with nothing and a spice of RNG to fuck me in the ass. I'll never pretend this shit is competitive, though there are some mechanics to learn when you're engaged in actual firefights.

>>
>>385005387
The game lets you play in teams of 4 vs 25 other teams, so there's certainly room for teamwork, in fact it is way more fun than playing solo.

Circle and loot mechanics make the game too RNG-based to ever be truly competitive but if you don't take it too seriously and like Battle Royale style games it's good fun.

You might have an addictive personality then. Liking "progression" more than the actual activity is similar to the gambler's mentality or a pavlov drip.

I definitely agree. I have 70 hours in the game right now, 3 solo chicken dinners, 1 duo chicken dinner, and 0 squad chicken dinners. I still have the most fun playing squad because it's so chaotic, even if I'm less likely to win

Addiction is defined as 'activities that interfere with other activities in life,' so if the presence of meta-goals (like EXP or achievements or whatever) is harming your ability to have fun with games that actually end, I think that's unfortunately a bad signal

thrill of the kill

killing someone in another shooter doesn't have the same emotional response generally because people respawn so quickly and game rounds don't last very long.

but a game of PUBG has no respawns, and it can last to about a half hour or so. getting #1 is exhilarating

Nothing thrilling about two people hearing each other, crouch walking, then shuffling around for 1-2 minutes abusing the camera until someone gets shot or fucks off. The bad thing about no respawns is that generally, most people play like pussies and 50% of the game is waiting.
