The only people who can be on that couch are invited by the runners themselves. In other speedruns both of them are always either on the couch or playing. There's various sources from the speedrunning community and posts on places like reddit of all places that confirm their friendship.
The whole point of the act was to point out that the whole idea of what is an "acceptable glitch" in a "glitchless" category for a run was utterly ridiculous. The guidelines were set by the speedrunning community and they thought it was ridiculous.
