Unironically, a great deal of it came from people questioning what does "artificial difficulty" mean when DaS came out and some youtubers blamed the game for the defeats they suffered.
Good and bad game design can be "felt" pretty easily if you just start asking yourself what it means, why are some games well designed and why are other games frustrating and boring despite being rich in features.
