Majima goes to jail in the first cutscene and has no relevance in the plot at all, only showing up again in a cutscene at the end of him getting out of jail. Also, it's literally another 'haruka makes terrible decisions' game. It just doesn't feel set up as well as some of the other games in the series have, and 0 feels more like a final story for kiryu, bringing together all the major elements of his past for his story

Okay, I will hand you that. I did think it was strange how Majima only showed up at the very beginning and very end, and even Akiyama's reason for being around felt a lot like "well we have to have SOMEONE worth a damn in this game".

To be fair, Yuta ends up being Kiryu's son-in-law, he's not irrelevant really. But yes, Haruka is again dumb.

For what it was worth, I enjoyed the drama with the Saioh-kai, and both Someya and Kurusu were really enjoyable villains/characters.

Beat Takeshi also very much does not belong in this game, but Miyasako Hiroyuki does a great job of playing a Hiroshima bumpkin. Obviously if you are not familiar with Japanese celebrities these are meaningless points so the game may well tank in the West.

All in all, better than Black Panther, worse than 5, better than 4. That's my hot take.

I've only played 0, I'm hyped as fuck for Kiwami. I would consider 0 to be in my top 10 favorite games. Shit was so good and the minigames were addicting. I wish the music was more 80's though, I guess the crazy guitar music is, but like synthwave kinda stuff. I also hated how Majima turns into a retard lunatic out of nowhere, but I guess it makes more sense for people who have played the series from the beginning.

he's not a lunatic, he just decides that he should live his life to the fullest with no regrets, following the examples of lee and nishitani. You'll only see him act like a fucking mong in yakuza kiwami because they kinda botched his character. In yakuza 1 and 2 he's an unpredictable dude who can help you but could just as easily turn on you and try to stab you (which he does try to do like three times). In 3 and beyond, he's a little more serious but still wild and any of his interactions with saejima in 4 and 5 show his true personality
