>buy 50 fucking RPGs during the Steam sale
>none of them have the same polish and enjoyable gameplay of Divinity
Why is it so hard for RPG devs to make combat and exploration fun? These are the core of D:OS and it makes the game feel so good to play through.
Real time with pause is such dogshit, I have no idea how it caught on.

>But divinity is only fun for the first half. Then it becomes incredibly shit.
First half was in early access for 8+ months. Devs kept improving the game based on feedback. Last part was supposed to be a surprise so it wasn't playtested by many people.
Moral of the story: early access works, sometimes.
D:OS 2 comes out of early access soon. That should be enough to fill the void you're looking for.

cool story bro
Thus is on sale, should I get this?
I mostly have a background d with jrpgs, the witcher games being an exception.
>>384915156
It's a good game but it's very much more about having fun designing character builds and figuring out combat tactics. The story isn't the focus, so if that's your big draw to jrpgs/witcher etc, it might not be something you like.
>>384914663
>incredibly easy
I hope you're exaggerating. It was hard enough that I'd expect most players would fail on the first try since they don't expect the worm. But I played on classic difficulty following the release of early access and there's been quite a few changes since then, including more skills, equipment and different AI. I hope it's not changed so much that it's 'easy'.
>>384915156
Only play the first game for the gameplay. The second game however lets you roleplay a fuckton more and gives you an absurd amount of freedom.
>>384907524
Divinity has great combat but everything else was lacking.
>start playing this game with qt adorable GF
>stopped playing due to her headphones breaking
>never get back to play it
>months and months later, awful heartbreaking breakup for the both of us
>now become profoundly sad every time seeing/hearing about the game
I.. I want to finish it with her..
>>384916154
Which reminds, are Larian fucking insane? Do they really expect people to 4-player co-op a complex, story-heavy RPG with probably 50+ hours of gameplay?
>>384915429
it was very easy. I struggled a lot with the early access (classic) and beat it with no trouble. The fight was actually hard before the worm appears, and then once the worm appears, the Magisters mostly ignore you and go for the worm. A lot of the turns was just me watching as the two sides attacked each other. Spoiler: the Magisters won, and I just cleaned up afterwards.
>>384917253
Yes, they are nuts and i fucking love them for this.
I personally think they are hoping to make 4 player lan for this purpose, kinda sort of D&D sessions.
Also the game master mode is nothing i have ever seen, i hope it will pick because so far it's so amazing they managed to get an actual campaing of D&D for it.

Alexander is actually really only hard if you go into his battle through the side door and not the front door. If you go in via his room, you can get swamped by the enemies, if you go in the front you can easily dispatch his two melee soldiers and that silent monk before the mages get in, and by then it's over.

>tfw burned out once I reach the forest region
Does the pace pick back up? How far into the game is that? Because I've played almost 30 hours. I also still haven't beaten Braccus, though. I noped away once hesummoned all of the minibosses on the way to him.
I also haven't found the Twins Bound By Fire or whatever they're called.
>>384912286
I remember hearing something about them deciding on changing the main hub from the hall of echoes to a flying air ship, but it should still be a place you can visit. Dunno, though. Haven't been following it as closely, but that's the first thing I could think of.
Haven't touched early access because I inevitably lose interest in anything EA, and I really wanted to maintain my hype for this game until it's finished and released. Still very excited for it, especially now that game master mode seems to be a pretty good tool after all the disappointments of previous games that promised a feature like that.
>>384919901
Twins are found north east of the city. There is a massive fire area to explore and he is in there. As for the pace it picks back up once you get to the snow region.

>while your buddies are standing around waiting for you?
They don't. They can literally fuck off and do whatever they want while you're talking to npcs and shit. DivOS1 had this, too, which led to some pretty ridiculous exploits where one player could trap an enemy in conversation while the other player would set up a fuck-ton of mines and traps around them.
>level up
>don't know what to spend points on
>afraid of wasting them
>stockpile points for like five levels
Is the talking to animals perk worth it? Are there any major quests you get from it?
>>384920027
I found the snow region to be the dullest
>>384920119what if it's both?
So, serious question about me and my friend beign shitters:
Last time we played (months ago) was I think in the basement of the church where we fought a wombo combo of like 4 different bosses we had seen before. So far we have not been able to fight our way out of that.
What should we be doing? We just tend to get overwhelmed.
>>384920504
It can be really helpful sometimes. Animals give you hints on treasure/weaknesses for enemies.
>>384920504
Pet Pal gives you several quests, gives you a ton of useful advice, and lets you skip a boss.
>>384920504
Talking to animals can be really useful as they can give you hints and stuff. There's a quest in the pub in the first town too where you have to help the cat in there get a gf. I'd highly recommend giving it to one of your characters
You're playing as a cute lizard girl, aren't you /v/?

I find it tends to completely fuck over mages. The one mage in my party was useless for offense because nobody else could destroy magic armor.
Magic has this weird catch-22 where you want to use spells on enemies to CC them once their magic armor is gone, but you don't want to use waste spells on enemies who still have magic armor because that negates CC.

I really wanted to like Divinity but the game kept doing annoying stuff that made me hate it.
I started in normal difficulty and I won battles without taking a single hit so I restarted in Tactician difficulty, now the battle were different which I thought was very good.
The problem was that the game went full retard and made it so during fights after a certain number of turns more enemies spawned out of thin air because "lol tactician"
I wanted to like how enviromental effects worked but I was confused by how they worked all the time, sometimes I would be in the middle of a raging fire but take no damage and when I tried to get out of it I would be lit on fire, other times I would throw a fire spell into a cloud of poison and instead of getting an explosion I would get fire on the ground and poison gas over it which made no sense.
The entire HUD was bugged, characters had different health bars on their portraits than on the action queue bar and even the order in which each character played was wrong on that bar because sometimes a character got stunned but when you helped them the game would skip their turn even when the bar said they were next.
The thing that made me drop the game was that during a TURN BASED fight I noticed that one of my characters suddendly was lit on fire while I was thinking about what to do, I noticed there was some sort of fire totem outside the fighting area and that it had a timer on top of it, every 10 seconds it would set one of my characters on fire which made no sense because this is a turn based game but this faggot totem kept setting my characters on fire while I was thinking about what skills to use FUCK.

I'm inclined to agree.
I miss the original Divinity, with hack and slash combat in the original it was like a 2.5D TES game with a sense of humour.
You could pull off some really wacky shit - I know it was meant to be turn based, it it was just so much fun as a hack n slash.
It's why I really loved Divinity 2, but couldn't get into OS, it just never gave me that sense of free roaming wonder and humour.
I can really appreciate that OS was the game that they set out to make with DD, but I prefer what DD brought to the table.

Their ability to ignore terrain, teleport and adrenaline makes em realy usefull.
use a dagger in your main hand and an axe in your off hand, do tons of damage
>>384925332
same here, i cannot be nasty to NPCs, it just feels wrong.
I only ever go with an "evil" path if evil doesnt include beeing a cunt.
>>384918474
back in the day we also had to choose internet gaming or have the telephone available
>>384924182
It's better than Pathfinder though, and not just by a little bit.
>>384923808
In EE they can still teleport behind enemies and instantly kill them by midgame, spam hard CC like a motherfucker, and if nothing else is working, draw a bow and start spamming trick arrows. Not being the gods they were in the vanilla release doesn't make them bad.
This game sounds very intimidating with the amount of stuff you can do.
>>384930342
>big deep games are bad
just play it faggot
>>384928079
That was a bug, should be fixed by now.
>>384907524
>the entire third act is literally just constant combat filler
>only first map seems to finished with a hub region
>polished
WOOOW
So this is the power of shilling?
>>384923858
You were just bad. The only reason Rogues weren't the absolute best character type in the game was because of spellcasters having infinite invisibility + 5 different spell schools that all ran off of the same stat - doubling your damage via Guerilla for a mere 1 extra AP is huge.
>>384924678
>he killed based Jahan
I wonder if the choices in the 2nd will have more impact, outside +/- on reputation. Like slitting the throat of the dying jailer on the ship.
>>384921528
I also plan to go Undead, namely a Deathknight hybrid (warfare + necromancy initially, maybe added ice magic if branching is viable).
Hope they get a cool racial.
>>384932708
I remember one of the racial abilities they were spitballing during early development was a large base HP boost at the start of the game that regresses over time and actually starts taking HP away.
>>384932150
>Ja "THE DEMONS" han

>>384907524
>shilling your shit on /v/
Guess this board is made for you, kickstarterfag.
>>384925332
i used to be like that, always the 100% lawful / chaotic good guy ... then I realized it's just code and pixels and it doesn't have any actual feelings so why not go all black hat on them
>>384933981
Get lost, Obsidian. You're washed up hacks.
>>384907524
Bought it on PS4, fantastic port, was overwhelmed at first but continued playing it and at the end it was in my top 5 of 2016 and i can't wait for the port of the 2nd one.
Meanwhile i bought Pillars of Eternity and my god that game's combat is shit dropped after 3 hours.
>>384934915
why would you play this kind of game on console
>>384935047
Why not? Have you tried it? it's perfect with a controller and it's turn based not a micro managing RTS/MOBA.
>>384930342
Yeah, it worries me to. A lot of these PC games have too much stuff.
How do developers expect people who have lives and have limited time to play to finish them?
>>384935207
to be fair, no
inventory management just seems like it would be a nightmare
>>384907524
how is RTWP any different from divinitys turn-based apart from RTWP being faster and vastly superior, especially against trash mobs ?
>>384907524
I picked this up on ps4 because my PC is a piece of shit toaster, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Are there any other decent games like this on console or am I out of luck? Also, I'm about to head to the phantom forest, how close to finishing the game am I?
>>384918436
>>They can literally just walk off and leave you behind.
I loved this when playing Div:OS
When me and my buddy got to the first town everyone went discovering on his own and we didn't really regrouped until a few hours later
>snake pulls a soldier into the middle of a pod
>shoot snake, he's free but he's gonna git raped if he moves
>allahu akbar the aliens with his grenades
>killsonly himself
>>384921614
Did you tried Fire shield and Avatar of Fire?
Examine too maybe?
>>384935301
Then it's the same as the pc version
>>384920709
Gonna make a Skeleton witha 2-handed mace and call him LeoricLONG LIVE THE KING, Maybe throw some vampiric abilities for the lulz.
>>384936606
I meant even more of a nightmare.
Did we ever get any more info regarding the next tiers of skills for Summoning and Polymorph?
Tier 1 of summoning was okay, but polymorph was super underwhelming.
>>384937692
Polymorph is a supplementary skill and has some extremely good skills. Skin Graft and Heart of Iron are excellent for any kind of character and they've got far more than just that.
>Fighters get one skillset
>Mages get like half a dozen
Fuck magic
>>384922667
>you HAVE to
You literally don't. You can tell her to piously accept her bone curse and she'll remain a spooky skelly.
>>384907524
D:OS is an aesthetic trainwreck to the point it's barely playable. Fucking hell it looks like a phone game, so bland and tasteless.
>>384938171
At least the MAA/Warfare skillsets are consistently good.
>>384938171
There are a fuckton more fighter/rogue skills in DOS2 and Mages are far more focused and less one man army.
>>384938720
>goes on sale for a reasonable price in three years
>>384907524
wrpg is a trash genre
>>384938720
Did they fix inventory management?
>no mention of divinity's nonexistent writing
hrmmmmmm
>>384939840
>nonexistent writing
>game is nearly all text
>>384939840
Isn't the company known for pretty silly writing? I mean, their logo is a knight getting shot in the head with a suction cup arrow. The story wasn't anything to write home about, sure, but it kept me entertained for what it was
>>384924047
I love this eccentric bastard.
>>384935314
>RTWP being faster and vastly superior, especially against trash mobs
Because, my little munchkin, TBS are not supposed to have trash mobs. Every fight should be life and death matter. At least on Tactician mode DivOS gets that right.
>>384940189
Among the current devs, they are the most silly, ironic writingon purpose, like Divinity 2 had the steoripic mage with a full robe/wizard hat with fucking stars draw on those but sometimes they manage to catch up off guard, like the ending of Divinity 2.
Fucking got baited by asexy voice, freeing the actual evil that you were to supposed to seal and getting trapped into a cage inside the soul dimenstion where the chosen one (that one where you actually supposed to free), a legendary hero, literally welcomes you as you both guys enjoy immortality inside a glass cage with the mind as you both fucked up, hard.
Too bad the expansion kinda ruined it. Its great but i felt disappointed on that regard.
>>384939840
Writing can't turn shit gameplay into GOTY vidya. Obsidian has been proving this for the last 15 years.
>>384941182
>What is New Vegas
>>384941409
#NotMyGOTY
>>384938171
That just means they only need to invest in one skill line and have more free points to fuck around with.
That said, are hybrids possible? High stat requirements on gear and skills made them kinda shit in DivOS1.
>>384941182
Funny, because my experience with Obsidian is somewhat different. I can stomach the gameplay in most of their shit, but I came to realize that I really don't care for their writing. Thinking about it, I really don't like any of Obsidian's games.
>>384916154
Same shit happened to me anon, will get back to it someday
Quick /v/, what will your DOS2 party be?
Mine will probably be:
>1 skeleton fighter
>1 dwarf shapeshifter/fighter hybrid
>2 lizard waifu spellcasters, one focused on fire/earth and one on wind/water
>>384939840
>storyfags
How does it feel to be ruining video games?
>>384907524
the first divinity game was real time with pause though
>>384943425
A skeleton with Deathknight-like abilities and necromancy.
Don't care about the rest since my friends will be playing them and I don't want to force them into specific roles, we can play 4 melee skeletons for all I care.
>>384943425
Gotta roll with one of every race in my multikulti team. So my main will be whichever companion is missing.
>>384907524
Too bad it gets boring once you solve the murder case and the story takes a nosedive too
>>384907524
most fun build for this game?
thinking about revisiting it and remembering melee got pretty dull and archers required all those special arrows
>>384943678
>storyfags
>literal role playing game
>>384944932
Roleplaying games have become synonymous with stats. Character optimization. Builds. Why? Because these are the GAMEPLAY elements in a VIDEO GAME.
I cannot remember the last time I cared about story in a game.
>>384943425
I'm going to be an elf. Im torn between witch/summoner, or a melee polymorph fighter. My girl will probably make a human fire wizard and then we will have a dwarf fighter and a lizard ranger
One day Steam will die and you'll be left with nothing but memories of buying those games and never playing them.
I wanna complete the game before 2 comes out, any idea how to finish it as fast as possible?
Lost my save when I was around the end and I don't feel like redoing it
>>384946893
Well if you lost your save, you might have to do it over again. If you gear properly, and focus solely on the main story you can probably finish it in 15 hours. But you'll be severely under leveled
>>384943425
I'm gonna do a zombie if possible, otherwise skeleton with paladin likes power, otherwise a wizard zombies.
My dream was zombie bard but retards fucking picked summoner instead of that and street fighting.
>>384947198
Any specific builds?
>>384948156
My girl and I had great success on us being battlefield control/buffs/summons and the mercenaries being fighter and ranger. If you play on normal mode you should have only a little issue with being under leveled
>>384948376
Cheers I'll look into it
>>384907524
>waiting on this to drop to 29.99
Once it does that, I'll buy it.
>>384948507
If you feel that you can't spread your stats around between your two main characters, drop the melee fighter for the jahan.
>>384918326
What? Divinity is full of random shit that kills you instantly.
>>384948772
Pay attention.
>>384935843
XCOM2?
>>384921049
>>384921553
This game sucked.
>>384948879
to what? that's one example that has a warning out of several that don't
I remember the boss in the church in that area summoning a meteor storm that just killed my entire party immediately on the first turn
Can't fucking wait for D:OS2. The Game Master mode looks really cool from the sessions I've seen. Being an undead is just my absolute favorite thing though.
>>384949169
Git gud
>>384949319
>>384907524
Because you need to be playingJRPGs
>>384948879
It was quite an ambiguous warning, maybe they were trying to get you to doubt yourself and scare you away from the treasure!
Also, the smart thing to do would be to keep one character at a safe distance away, just in case it was a trap.
>>384949586
I can't think of a single jrpg with gameplay even a little bit as good as D:OS
>>384949749
>Lets dig up a grave in someone's backyard when theres a cemetery in town
The smart thing to do would be using common sense and not doing it, you're to exposed, its too suspicious, overall a very bad idea.
Even if the game doesnt cares about that you SHOULD act with intelligence because it will assume you have it, that was simply a warning for people who think they're playing Skyrim or Fable where they can take everything that isnt bolted to a wall.
>>384939840
>playing games for story
Go read a book nerd.
Games are for GAMEplay.
I swear, there is nothing more patehthic that manchildren thinking games are some serious story telling medium, like Uncharted 4 where you murder thousands while playing an indestructible superhuman while trying to sell you those shitty serious cinematics.
Original Sin had more than enough of a story to justify 40 hours of combat.
>>384951841
>applying real life logic to games.
Neck yourself
Games like this force you to loot everything And steal everything thats not nailed down to progress.
That grave was complete bullshit and you know it.
>>384952320
No they don't, no it wasn't.
>>384952320
>I have kleptomania and its the games fault for punishing that.
