Worth collecting for or can it just offer bad versions of modern titles?
Older consoles might have some charm to them while the 360 and PS3 can only offer subpar versions of modern games.

Nope, because every game was so mass produced that even niche PS3/360 titles go for about 50 cents second hand now, and will for many years to come.
The only games from last and current gen worth collecting are special editions.
I kept mine for all the XBLA exclusive re-releases/ports and shoot em ups.

I'm 34 and recently sold most of my collection going back to the late 80s. While some games certainly went up in price like Project justice, and mars matrix, which retailed for $20 new, most are a shit investment and go down in value. There are just much smarter ways that once less clutter if your truly in it to make money. It was fun to hunt them down and play them though. Back then I could get chronic trigger from a pawn shop for 5-6 bucks.

360 was the definitive version of many titles. Some were even graphically ahead of what PC would do without mods.

Abosutley. I wasn't so I was pleased with the couple grand I made selling them.
