Why do most anime only get shit games? Wouldn't it make more sense to make the games good so it would sell even more as in, good game + franchise advertising?

Why make something good when the fanbase will buy it regardless?

Likely the same reason many tie-in movies aren't great - they want something that can ride the popularity of the source work, so it needs to be quick, and the same people who are good at making one type of media aren't necessarily good at making other types (the same thing happens with movies about games, for example), so either it is produced by the same people that made the anime who don't really know about game design, or different people are brought in who may or may not have the same vision, and likely aren't as passionate.

The best franchise games tend to be the ones made as standalones, since they can get a regular production process without the main media form's release hanging over their heads. Compare Star Wars games made as tie-ins to the prequels to standalones like KOTOR or Rebel Squadron.

>why are games based on movies shit?
>why are games about real products shit?

But at least there are some games based on anime that are good.

Two factors at play. First, it doesn't have to be good to sell to fans of the franchise anyway, so why sink the cost? Second, even if it IS good, people who aren't fans of the franchise will generally assume it's shit anyway because of the first point.

This is why nobody likes Transformers Devastation despite it being the best action game of the decade. On the other hand, DBFZ is getting a really positive reception so maybe people are starting to figure out that good studios can make good games from any property if given enough creative control.

It was also $40 for 5-6 hours worth of campaign. Sure, it had a whole bunch of unlockables for NG+ shit, but the meat of the game was easily doable in one sitting.
