No, becuase the hardcore players were the ones buying the all the expansions. They've only release 3 lack luster EPs for 4 compared to 10 that were out by year 4 of The 3rd games cycle.

They were racking in way more money with 3 than they would or could with 4. Most people still go back to 3 after playing for my sister returned 4 and got new packs for 3 afterwards

DICE is high risk low reward, stuff like Battlefront and Mirror's Edge cost a lot to develop for and sell decently once they are out but FIFA and Sims constantly sells over long periods of time with DLC cash continuously coming in. The sims 4 only sold around 400k in the first year compared to the the the 600k 3 broke in it's first year.

All of the sims money comes from the EPs and SPs.
While the sims 4 out sold 3 base gamewise it's very much struggling EP wise.

What's wrong with The Sims 4? I never played any Sims game but I recently pirated 4 for the sex mods and it seems alright, though I obviously don't know how the previous games were.

A German developer made a sims clone called Singles and a sequel. In a time when The Sims 3 was available the best the competition could muster was something not as good as even The Sims 1. Nobody would have cared at all if not for the lewd content and that was still far from enough to make it worth it.

At launch the game was far more barebones than the sims 3

>You have to load to go across the street
>No create a style (A mode that allowed you to retexture and recolor any object)
>You can only have 3 floors on a lot compared to 3's 9

The sims themselves feel a lot more flat compared to 3, there's no ambitions so their end goals are all the same dull bs. It's too to die from anything other than natural causes and it's just overall missing a lot of the charm the franchise is known for. Also I personally think 4 looks too cartoony and stylized.

Apparently it was removed because the online community idea that was originally intended rendered it technically infeasible. The online shit was canned but they couldn't put it back in at that stage of development.

I atleast appreciate that they brought back the aesthetic style of Sims 2 for the characters. The Sims 3 pudding faces looked odd and animated really poorly. Also, customization is way better.

The Sims 4 is not nothing but downgrades, there are some improvements thrown in there too.

I think the faces are way better in sims 4 and create a sim for sims not clothing is great. But no matter what I feel like it doesn't help that they look like clay with clay hair.

Even with mods I can't seem to lose this effect. Facial the sims 4 looks better but aesthetically it looks like ass and way too cartoony
3 may have had pudding faces but with a bit of CC it was great

To each their own. I'm not interested in making waifus in The Sims and I really don't think that's what the developers intended either. I think the cartoon look fits very well with the cartoon world of The Sims. I liked it and I missed it in The Sims 3.

Lmao I'm not either but I want my sims to look presentable and have their personality reflect in their style which is why spend entire days downloading DLC.

I think the cartoony look fits the game is overdoing it imo but it feels like a downgrade from 3. Like I said 4's CAS is amazing but they stylization ruins it.

Even 2 as geometrical as the sims look the textures didn't seem as flat and lifeless compared to 4. Like there's refections in vanilla hair and the skin doesn't look clammy. There's an emphasis on individual hair strands rather than WoW style hair of 4. 2 looked cartoony due to it's graphical limitations but even then it wasn't forcing an aesthetic like 4 is. 4 looks closer to something TF2 rather and a successor to the sims
