Hey /v/, let's have a Pathologic thread

What is the comfiest location?

Also, I just recently began my first playthrough as Haruspex. Was that a mistake? I read on various forums that the first playthrough should be done as Bachelor, although Haruspex looked cooler. Day one went by smoothly enough after I got my rep to max, and I'm at day 3 now, so I can hardly tell what's in store for me.

Bachelor is much simpler and less action-based (you only need to participate in one gun fight to beat the game) but he's also the one with the best story and writing, and why would you play Pathologic for anything else. I didn't play Devoutress so can't help you there, but apparently the character was rushed in the game and will be reworked for the remake. That said, enjoy this thread dying, I'm looking forward to discussing the game with /v/ when the remake is released.

After Bachelor, Haruspex's storyline feels like an acid trip after couple of days.
Like >>384875889 said he has the best story imo. Bachelor is just too disconnected from the steppe lore and Changeling's storyline is repetitive and barebones compered to the other two.

And I think Stone Yard in general is the comfiest location.
>>
>>384874498
Haruspex is considerably more confusing because you need (well, should) be brewing stuff with the herbs you find.
The bachelor's route also gives more of a newcomer stranger's view about the city, which is better for the first playthrough.
Haruspex and bachelor can be kind of interchange, but at least you didn't go fucking changeling.

I didn't go changeling because you can't take her until you play Bachelor/Haruspex first

I am wondering now however if I should ditch my Haruspex playthrough and leave it for the second time, and start off with Bachelor
>>
>>384874498
Make another file as Bachelor, his start is comfy as hell and his gameplay is much easier. Haruspex will involve a lot of spiritual stuff which makes even less sense if you don't have Bachelor's basic view of the town's customs from an outsider perspective.
>>
>>384877731
I'd stay stick with it and if you get stuck try bachelor out. While it doesn't really matter it's just that I feel like Bachelor to Haruspex has the best revelation of secrets. Though bachelor uncovers some crazy ass stuff as well.
Also there's no shame in using a walkthrough for pathologic, I wouldn't have survived some days without one, while others were piss easy.

Hopefully we'll be able to see such a panorama in the Remake. Having beaten the original and having found plenty of problems with it, I'm hyped for the devs fixing most of them.

What was the cause of the plague again?

Because in the Bachelor's route it was implied that the Polyhedron's existence and being anchored deep underground brought the plague out, right? Or was it just that the Polyhedron broke the laws of physics and nature wanted to erase it?

The game is very vague on what Polyhedron actually is. Because of the game's engine limitations you don't really find much here, at some point you go inside into the dreamland but there's nothing to do. Each faction interprets Polyhedron differently, from the parallel reality, to a cradle of some demon, to a 4th wall breaking model of reality etc.
>>
>>384878239
dude that image is a big fucking spoiler right there

>>384878058
The Polyhedron cut into the earth, a taboo. It pierced down below, into subterranean chambers where ancient, sacrificed bull blood flowed.

>What was the cause of the plague again?
Pretty sure it was the cow blood from massive productions in Abbatoir that permeated the soil

>>384878028
I'm still kind of confused as to what Haruspex's main game plan is. While the Bachelor seems to have one defined from the getgo and is relatively straight-forward.

The haruspex on the other hand (from what I gathered three days in) is supposed to gather organs to collect herbs, and with said herbs to craft Twyrine potions.

However this can't be done too much in one night because there's just not that much fucking Twyrine that the worms sell, and at the end of the day, you'll need more anyhow.

And then that faggot Notikin asks me to make him 10 potions for his boy scouts. Well shit nigger if you provide me the fucking herbs I'd be more than glad to do it

Infected house spooked me too, although you can exploit it easily just by standing in a corner and ducking to the side every time disease cloud comes for you.
Apart from that, I actually always found Pathologic to be very comfy. It seems like a nice place with interesting architecture full of cool people with interesting traditions and culture. The game doesn't have any outright 'evil' characters, just people dealing with the problem the best they can.

Toms of spooks, the silent home, the first plague house you enter, but more so the dialogue. That description of the plague houses, writhing, fleshlike mold that grew on its surface. The caravan, with its kidnapping of children. How Rubin mentions that Simon's body was kept alive before he was ground to a pulp to make a vaccine. The screams of the arsonists. The termitiary in general is also very spooky.

Its said in the game that adults can't see the actual interior of The Polyhedron because they forgot who to dream or something. Thats why Bachelor only sees an empty room, while the kids convince him that there's a giant magical world.

You're meant to think that it's the communistic rulling party since the setting takes place in Russia between the two world wars (or before the first one, I don't remember). But communism is already there.

The miliatary commander and the lady that's sent to the town before him are all shitting themselves at the mere thought of angering the party. I thought it was pretty obvious.

>Also did you knew that you can actually track down the agents the Inqusitor mentions when you ask her about letters?
Isn't that part of some sidequest that you have to do anyway on one of the later days?

I said that this is what you're MEANT to think, since it's the simplest answer. But the Powers that Be are actually something else that you learn at the very end of all the routes. Or after getting enough people to beat the game with both characters at the same time.

It's just a couple of children in Polyhedron, someone close to them had died so they decided to smother their sorrows by playing a game. They made a replica of the town, dolls they play became game's characters and the sorrow became plague.

Scheduled release date is "Fall 2017", but I really don't think that will happen. That's 3-4 months from now, and backers still don't have access to the alpha version, to say nothing of the beta (the Marble Nest doesn't count, as it was a pre-alpha moodpiece thingie, not the actual alpha version that was promised). And they pushed the release date once or twice before already.

Not that I mind. I'd have them take all the time they need, rather than rushing the game. I fully trust Dybowski will deliver, but in his own time.
And for us, this means suffering, as we just sit around and wait.

iktf breh. Pathologic is a kind of game you really want to play because your brain remembers the atmosphere and the story, but then you start replaying it you suddenly recall the hours of farming bandits with the worst fighting system ever and bothering every child in the game for barter. >Was I doing something wrong?
Not really, you just weren't paying as much attention as you should have been. Of course Saburov (the noble) didn't want to give you access, it's a murder scene, but he should have referred you to Julia/Yulia for more information about Isidor - she has a house at the top end of the middle district of the town. Don't worry too much about completing every objective in order, the main purpose of the first day is to familiarise you with the Town and its systems and acquaint you with the main players for the Bachelor's story - the Kains, Saburov, and especially the girls of the town. By the end of the first day you should have met and possibly received quests from Eva, Julia, Lara, and Anna.

If you check your map, buildings with important characters - those with at least one of the Adherents/Bound - are shaded red, so while you're exploring on the first day it might be worth having a look inside the ones you pass to meet the characters.
Another couple of notes: unless they've fixed this in the rerelease, characters can sometimes have more than one conversation they can have with you at one time, but they don't automatically trigger so whenever you speak to someone make sure you keep talking to them until you trigger their 'generic' reply for the day. Also, when you see a glyph flash at the bottom of the screen it means you've received a letter/journal update, so make sure you check them regularly (each has a keybind) because they can be quest-important.

tl;dr don't be discouraged, anon! It can take a while to learn Pathologic's systems and it often takes new players a couple of tries to progress in the game, so just try and think of the first few days as a learning experience and don't be afraid to restart. Good luck, anon!
>>
>>384890272

Anon, Pathologic's first day is the biggest noob trap, it's the only day that ends the game if you fail the main objective, and it has deceptively small prices in stores that skyrocket on day 2

I don't get why everyone makes such a huge deal out of this. You're given plenty of time before midnight. Even Bachelor's first day, which is the most minutae-task intensive, is rather trivial, even moreso since every new destination gets marked on your map.

>Anon, Pathologic's first day is the biggest noob trap
I agree, that's why I recommend new players not worry that much about it. It seems a lot of new players struggle with the first day in particular, learning how to travel around and scavenge and it's easy for them to forget to trade for or gather enough supplies, then run into Day Two (if they make it that far) and get crushed by the price increases. That's why I like recommending people play for as long as they can, just to learn the mechanics if nothing else, and then restart if they fail. Learning as much as you can on the first day means most players should be able to survive the next few without much trouble.
>and it has deceptively small prices in stores that skyrocket on day 2
I never like warning people about this,
it's such a good moment when you experience it for yourself. It's not insurmountable either,
it makes a good test of and lesson for the player's mindset and willpower

>>384891174
>I don't get why everyone makes such a huge deal out of this
I think it can just be overwhelming for new players. I love Pathologic for it, but it can be very easy for new players to get overwhelmed by all the detail they're getting, and forget what the stagehands say about just completing the objective in front of you. Especially if you get lost or they don't realise or learn how to read the map or check their letters. It can be tempting to just explore the Town after you collect a few quests, and then suddenly it's too late.

The particular dialogue I'm talking about is from an unrelated conversation on one of the Bachelor's days, I can't remember who it's with. You find out about Anna's past in Klara's playthrough, so it's hard to realise what the line truly means without that context.
It's been long enough I might have got that wrong - she might be just a voice-stealing abomination. Time for another playthrough!

Wasn't Anna just stole the name of the performer, after she died? I didn't think that she stole the performant's face when i played Klara's playthrough

I remember there being a dialogue early on in the Bachelor's path with either one of the Puppets or one of the unimportant lines the Adherents have... maybe one of the Stamatins?. I don't remember it exactly, but it's explaining how Anna came to town, the singer disappeared, and there's something like "and now, somehow Anna speaks with the same voice as the singer. It sounds impossible, and yet it is true." I think it goes on to say something about how now Anna even looks like the singer used to, but I remember it refers to how impossible it is. I'm sorry I don't remember with more clarity.
I really need to play again, I'll remember to screenshot it this time, if I can find it.

People were trying to make a decent Pathologic thread for couple of days now. I'm glad that this one worked out.

Different anon here, I remember this from the few days I got into Clara.

She did in fact steal the caravan girl's face as well, she used to be pretty ugly as well apparently. Who the fuck knows how she did it but I distinctly remember this due to how fucked up it was. Dunno how much of that is literal or how much is metaphor but there you have it.

I think it took me about 30 hours? Maybe more. I savescummed a fair bit against bosses because failure just hurts you too bad. Well worth it though, in my opinion it's IPL's best game.

A while, but not as long as a full playthrough of Pathologic. Just know that before you start - you'll probably need to restart a couple of times until you get the hang of managing Colour.

Likewise! It's always nice to have a comfy Pathologic thread.
Have a good night/day, anons.

Thanks, anon! I knew I remembered something like that, I just can't remember which conversation it was in. I'm glad to know I didn't just imagine it.
I wondered if it might be metaphorical, but I remember that the conversation specifically mentioned how impossible it seemed, so it wouldn't surprise me if it were literally true at least on some level.

I hope they flesh out or expand the Abattoir in the remake. After all the buildup and seeing this weird thing looming on the horizon constantly it felt kinda underwhelming once I got inside.

Let's talk about the Marble Nest, again.

What are the requirements for the different endings ?
I know there are 3 different ones (not counting the ""bad"" ending when you die of hunger or tell the executor you're ready at the very beginning), but the only one I got over the course of two playthroughs was pic related : when you tell the executor at the end that you won't play by his rules. I think, but I'm not sure, that this dialogue is only possible after obtaining the heart and talking to the masks in front of the catedral.

Another thing, why am I teleported to the graveyard after entering that one house ? Presumably, that's the house where the plague carrier is hiding, but I never manage to explore more than a room before passing out and waking up at the graveyard. And when I come back, it's locked, of course.

Yeah, looks like an IPL thread to me.

It's only the second half of the Changeling route that feels rushed. The first part is actually pretty neat, and involves all the characters that didn't get to do much in the other two routes.

>>384905380
I don't think there's any way you can avoid getting teleported. There's nothing interesting in there anyways.

We don't have too much too hype up for though. The Marble Nest got out a 6-7 months ago and last update was a month ago about animations. I was expecting an update this July but looks like either they're getting ready for something or they just decided to skip this month's update.
