I still have a big soft spot for Slayers, it was pretty fun overall. But I don't think it'd fit being a fighter at all without being distorted so much there'd be no point. The power steppings, divergence and so forth are just too wild and close to D&D. And as I said earlier, the Jinchu arc was the next logical step in Kenshin's character arc. FGC people assume it's casual baby trash just due to being pokemon even though it's not,. Smash people get turned off because it's an actual traditional fighting game, and Pokemon fans get turned off due to the roster, as mentioned, or even if they like the roster, due to the fact that each character has different inputs and plays differently and there's actually varying frame data, which means they can't just pick up and play any character to fool around with like they could in any given casual liscesed fighting game like the naruto ones.

That being said, I think pokken has a fantastic roster otherwise. Charizard, Pikacu, Mewtwqo, and Lucario are obviously mandatory inclusions, while Gardevoir, Garchomp, Gengar, and Blaziken are all high profile fan favorites.

Weavile, Sceptile, Machamp, and Scizor are all more popular pokemon amongst a more niche audience, as is Chandelure, and Chandelure, alongside Crogunk and empoleon, appeal to the japanese demographic in particular. Braixen is good for furfags and animefags, and suicuine and dakrai are the most popular legendaries outside of main version mascots. Decidueye is also Gen 7's breakout mon.

If you are asking if it's got competitive depth, absolutely, it's got all of the core gameplay systems, mechanics, and fundamentals as other competitive fighters, though it's got a fair amount of unique stuff to it as well.

I'll say though if you need/want single player content to keep yourself invested, it may not satisy you, as the only single player content Pokken has is just a giant grind of arcade style matches slapped onto a super shitty halfassed story told through text. But if you are getting it to get into it competitively then obviously that shouldn't matter anuyways, especially since in the switch port the entire roster is unlocked from the start.

pokkenarena.com is the current community information repository, though all of the actual disscusion happens on the discord channel (discord.gg/pokken) rather then the pokkenarena fourms. The fourms only get used to post guides, information on tech, and just general resource compiling.
