For someone that wasn't even alive for another decade when the first Final fantasy came out, I've always wondered what it was about this game that would become apart of Videogame culture.
Would a game like this released today have the same effect as it did back then? Has anything come close? Was it truly revolutionary like you'd say for Super Mario and Zelda?
If I wanted to play this game right now, would I even be able to? Does it stand the test of time?

Every sentence in your post is retarded in some way. Just wanted to say that, can't be assed to answer your questions.
I played 1 on the GBA as my first FF and it was nice, the story is pretty cool for a JRPG. It's babby mode in terms of difficulty so you might wanna play the PS1 version if you want a more DnD feel with the magic.
Final Fantasy has always held it's place because of story.
Even when you play through FF1 and compare it to Dragon Quest 1 or Phantasy Star 1, there's just something in the progression of the game that makes it stand above the rest.
And then FFVI and VII sort of cemented the series in both the East and West because their tone.
Aside from FFVII and FFX being extremely popular in the West, while FFVIII's music was praised for being ahead of it's time, FInal Fantasy for the most part has been a cult genre throughout it's history.
Most of it's mainstream fandom went into Kingdom Hearts.
