Honestly the writing was on the wall with 4. Why they felt a need to do a 5 is beyond me. They should have just rebooted the series there.

MGS1. The entire game is just a hacked up pseudo-remake of MG1 and MG2. Then he continues to reuse those same ideas throughout the series.
