Another thing to note is that in all versions of 3, and vanilla 4, you don't manually control skills inherited by personae. It gets rolled randomly, but you can preview and reroll before committing to the fusion. Skill cards are available in p3p so that helps too.

I'm playing Nioh and I don't know what the fuck is going on, there are so many japanese characters and I can't remember their names. They all look the same.

I know they are supposed to be famous warlords and shit and it's like I'm supposed to know those big names but I only know Oda Nobunaga, Ueusgi Kenshin and Date Masamune and I'm not sure if they are in the game. I know Nobunaga is in because he appears in the intro.

Also what's up with Nobunaga, why is he usually a demon/bad guy in every game he's in?

That period is history is really overused in eastern games to the point that they just assume you know what's going on. It would be like not knowing the basics of WW2. I think the game has a journal where you can learn some shit or you can google Sengoku period.

I think kenshin is dead at this point in history and so is nobunaga. Date is fine and appears in the dlc.

Basically nobunaga united most of japan using some fairly violent methods so he gets portrayed as a demon. Then when he died people fought over his land and things were split into east vs west. That's when nioh takes place. The entire country is at war and about to fight the battle that decided the fate of Japan. It's basically their version of america's civil war but arguably more interesting.

The game feels balanced around controlling them. There are some other issues I have too like aoe weakness exploiting getting you another turn even if it doesn't down everyone. It makes aoe really strong in 4 compared to 3.
