I remember reading a book like that, but instead of the invasion being real he gets sucked into the game and finds out that there player character is the actual invader and helps the aliens defend against the enemy ship I also remember that at the end of the book he gets out of the game and somehow teleports onto some random girl's bed while she's asleep and it just ends with that
