In general he's more mindlessly goofy and less charming, as opposed to simple and 'ironic' as the og devs put it.

The fur is what makes him look off. The highest poly models in the 90s couldn't emulate fur very well so he always looked smooth. All of his models up until now had a smooth looking fur.

I really don't want to see that. His ears are too small, his eyes are creepy, not enough neck, and no fur texture.

Those rocks in the remake are so easy to make in Zbrush, I wouldn't be surprised if they become taboo very soon.

honestly, crash always looked a bit weird
the in-game models didn't look anything like his original drawings, so the character only really existed as a low poly model
trying to emulate that model with updated graphics is no easy task

?? How is he still ironic? He's just a big fucking goofball now. There are SO many times now in cutscenes and in game play where he makes literal Tirans tier 'bleeh!! xD' noises now. The noises he made in the original were more minimalistic and kept to a complete minimum, e.g woah, or 'uh oh' in Crash 1.

I just asked my mum which she thought looked better overall (not a fan if Crash, obviously). She said the top looked atmospheric, intense, and creepy while the bottom looked more like something for kids. She said both were fine though.
