If no one uses shields in end-game raids then what does it matter to you anyway? It certainly matters to me when the tank has pulled half the dungeon and the piddly shield that costs 10% of my MP bar breaks before the gcd is even over. Even a roused Whispering Dawn on top of that has difficulty outpacing the incoming damage.

If you aren't talking about 8 man content why do you care about AST shields? A benefic also breaks immeditely if the tank pulls half the dungeon and in that case you wouldn't even be in Nocturnal outside the preshield before pull. You have excog, shadowflare, and e4e and the tank has defensive cds. Adlo and Eos don't absolve you of your healing obligations if you're doing big pulls the shield is giving you a buffer that is enough to let you get your dots up and bane them. Then you, yes you not just the fairy, have to heal. I know sch isn't op anymore but whining about adlo and the fairy not being enough for a giant pull where people aren't over-geared makes SCHs look like such babies.

I shit you not once you get your chocobo level it into healing then forget your tank pet exists. The problem is with ONLY SMN the chocobo will not target your pet to heal it meaning your low damage tank pet is never going to get healed because Physik only scales off of mind and requires you to spam it on a tank pet just to keep the health stabilized. Meanwhile you're doing no damage.

So instead of what makes logical sense when leveling and out in the world you want heal chocobo out 24/7 and Ifrit as your summon. You're going to face tank mobs and your chocobo will actually heal you meanwhile Ifrit gets to do it's pretty solid damage. You can solo on level FATE bosses with this but you'll fail trying to do the same with a tank pet because they don't move out of damage zones and take 100% of the attacks made against them. Plus Physik actually heals yourself fairly well because of your lower hp so all in all Heal Choco/Ifrit is best leveling combo. I'm sorry you had to find this out at level 60.

I don't care about AST shields. I care about my own shields, and use AST shields as an example of what we could be having but don't for some reason. Where the fuck in my post did I say that I didn't want to heal? The point is that Adlo is so completely inefficient that it's not worth the bother half the time, and that my own healing plus the healing from the fairy can only keep up with the damage from a big pull by the thinnest of hairs while the other two healers don't have this problem. It's an issue precisely BECAUSE the shield isn't a big enough of a buffer to throw up my own dots without the tank dying.

If Adlo's shield actually had some power to it to justify the massive MP cost then I wouldn't at all mind it if I could throw it up, throw up my dots, and then focus on keeping the tank alive while the dots tick, but that's not the case at the moment. When I literally have to devote 100% of my time just to keep the tank alive when the entire gimmick of the job is that it's supposed to have tools to prevent exactly that from happening there is a problem. I didn't mind the fairy nerf, the aetherflow nerf, or even the bane nerf, but this shit right here just kills any enjoyment of the job.

wow raiding is hardcore 20 man action that has 10+ years of encounter designs and a hive mind playerbase of neckbeards who know the ins and outs of everything

ff14 raiding is friendly 8 man boss fights with no trash, most fights are single target and little diversity in mechanics mostly orange aoe circles or look away from the eye icon or stack together for the arrow marker. my favorite fights are sephirot and shinryu both visually pleasing and mechanically enjoyable but also casual filters for the kiddies who bought a boost, the playerbase also suffers from a lot of casuals because of this. give it time and maybe the difficulty curve will pick up but clearing deltascape 4 savage without a lockout reset or gear check kinda speaks for itself. A4S was much more manly.

BDO is a sandbox you can have fun with if you like grinding mobs and doing cart deliveries

I did the whole hardcore raid and pvp scene in mmos over a decade ago. It was physically and mentally taxing. I just treat FFXIV like a retirement home MMO. Because you are a different job with a shield with different properties that also has constant ogcd mp free healing and multiple ogcd and mp free heals. If you are still struggling between keeping your dots up while healing after these buffs that is either a you problem or the tank not using cds properly because you can 100% throw up your dots without letting the tank die. Yeah it's harder than it is for the other healers but that's the cost of SCH's dps, utility, fairy, and ogcd mana free heals, you are less efficient at healing. They can't be good at everything.

SCH can mitigate damage. It cannot prevent the damage coming from a giant pull in content where everyone isn't overgeared.

Titan has very little use. Maybe only multiple dangerous mobs tightly packed in open world which almost never happens. You can kill them faster with Ifrit anyway so honestly just bench Titan forever.

Ifrit is your highest damage pet.

Garuda is the dps/support pet. Lower overall damage than Ifrit but she comes with a group buff that's really good. Most people use Garuda for content solely because of her Contagion buff, but technically Ifrit will do more damage in a fight. Basically it comes down to, do you want to do more damage as the Summoner and get more use out of Enkindle (Ifrit), or are you okay with your damage suffering, having a worse Enkindle, but bringing a group buff.

The nice thing is that with Stormblood Ifrit is now actually viable. Before for a long time the only viable pet was Garuda.

Ifrit only does more damage if it's a fight with little movement or phase changes. Radiant shield is also similar to contagion but for physical oriented comps. I prefer garuda for that consistency and contagion buffs my dmg even if my party is mostly physical damage

I'd suggest using Ifrit if you can. Garuda's main attack has a cast time and in that time Ifrit has probably gotten within range. Also his buff comes with damage and his Enkindle is way better than Garuda's. The only thing Garuda really has going for it is in fights where there's almost zero static boss time which is rare, and that contagion can be taken advantage of by you and your group.

I just prefer Ifrit because without him SMN damage does suffer.

So it's alright for SCH, the healer job, a job whose role is to keep people alive, to be actively worse than the other two healers at keeping people alive, because it has a few other abilites that are there to help keep people alive, despite the fact that these abilities aren't sufficiently helpful in keeping people alive because in the end it's still worse at it than the other two.

I don't expect to be good at everything, I expect to be SUFFICIENTLY CAPABLE at the things my job is expected to do. By extension if my job is supposed to center around damage-absorbing shields and I'm expected to make use of said shields then I expect those shields to actually be worthwhile and actually worth the hotbar space they're on. Regardless of how good SCH is or isn't at keeping people alive you cannot deny that Adlo in its current state is next to useless. If you think that it's okay for a job to have abilities that are literally trap options just because it has some other good abilities to make up for it then go fuck yourself because that's not good design and you know it.

SCH isn't even that great at dps anymore, the WHM buffs has made it all but caught up in terms of dps and with the issues I outlined about any small dps lead that SCH may have in a vacuum vanishes because they have to spend so much more of their time personally healing instead of applying dps. Balance used to be the most powerful ability in the game until the most recent patch and even then it's still more than enough to make up for AST's own poor dps. What is left that SCH is actually good at? Off-gcd heals, something that despite their existence still makes SCH bad at keeping people alive, which you yourself just admitted to in your own post?

I can't really offer much here because I've never played SCH, but my friend has been a SCH main since 2.1. Through 61-69 he was disappointed with scholar and played, but after spending awhile at 70 he started to see the class as still being really strong if not OP and acxording to him the recent buffs just made it even stronger, he says he only has to cast a few heals during a fight and the rest of the time he does dps.

If people are disappointed with current SCH I'd say just play around with it a lot at 70 and look up some really knowledgeable scholars to really learn to excel at it.

As s a jack of all trades with many tools to deal with incoming damage lower potencies is cost .Nuke ogcd single target or aoe ogcds heals? SCH has that in spades on short cooldowns. Warrior still, it got a little shafted at the start of the expansion, but I still enjoyed the beast gauge for the most part. Haven't played 3.05 yet, but I can tell they definitely fixed the clunkiness, it's gonna be a lot more enjoyable now. There's still some small tweaks I would suggest such as making unchained and inner release use different cooldowns, but with shake it off hopefully being turned into something useful next patch it's not a huge deal.

Things have changed, just depends on what you're looking for. Standard combat is the same, (GCD, combos, etc)
Leveling though ARR is faster though to get past those piece of shit quests. HW and SB are better, although HW > SB storywise.

Heavensward story is a pretty good ride till post-final steps of faith. I say you stick with it at least until that point, otherwise you'll miss out on one of the best areas in the game. Stormblood' plot is mostly hot garbage, but the production value really shows in the dungeons and trials, which are some of the best in the game and introduce some new mechanics. If that interests you then I say you can trudge on further than that.

Currently level 65. I'm executing my rotation almost flawlessly on every pull. I got out DPSed by a fucking WAR on a boss. I have to work twice as hard to even get near every other class in DPS. RDMs can spam one god damn button and do shit loads of AoE damage, while I have to desperately try to align mobs in my invisible tiny ass frontal cone AoE attacks which always ends up clipping one or two. I run out of TP and that faggot RDM still has his full MP bar.

Does this get better at 70?

So I finished MSQ and started leveling a new job, is there really any reason to visit old zones beyond logs? I'd like to quest in them again but it just seems unviable

Leveled every crafter to at least 20 before stormblood hit, have 3 in their 30s. Will the ala mhiggan earrings make the leveling process to 50 much less painless, or should I just give up on crafting now if I don't enjoy it?
