That doesn't work in Pheonix Wright. I'm emulating those games as I speak and I'm having trouble with Redd White. The contradiction I want to bring up is that the wire tapping device was back at their hotel room, but I don't see a chance to. I'm afraid I just didn't find everything I needed in the investigation and I'd have to redo the entire trial.
>>
>>384784838
Don't worry about this, you can't miss anything
>>
Like anon said, the game makes sure you never get into an unwinnable state. It's just that sometimes the game is a bit stupid about when you're allowed to present certain pieces of evidence. The game is probably expecting you to bring up a different contradiction first.

Oh, one thing that doesn't translate very well; the can layouts are the length of each word. The first word has three letters, the second 5, etc. In the game proper you can't move the cans, only switch them so this would be obvious.

This doesn't make it any easier of course. It's still a terrible puzzle, and it's right at the start of the game.

This asshole just figured out that "sometimes Y" rule and went to town looking words where that's true. It's kinda bullshit he expected people to reverse engineer that. I picked up that there was no vowels so that it was limited to words where "y" was the only vowel, but that alone should've been 80% of the puzzle. That sentence is total bullshit.

It's got some other shit too. One picture puzzle is generated randomly and sometimes is unwinnable. There's also a chess puzzle that's unwinnable on modern computers because the higher clock speed means the ai has more time to pick a good move.

The thing is that this is a super influential game. It was one of the first games to use CD-ROM technology, and the CGI was incredible at the time. Manufacturers would present this game off at trade shows to show off the capabilities of the hardware. It had a much more intricate plot than any other game of 1993 either.

Sold 2 million copies, Bill Gates called it the new standard in innovation, etc.

It's one of those things that time just forgot. It's responsible for so much development in the videogame sphere, but can be looked back on as an awkward, frustrating, ugly, convoluted mess of a game. Time marches on, I suppose.

Old adventure games were filled with stupid shit like this. To be fair the game has a hint book that'll just give you the answer if you use it enough times. It says that bad things happen if you overuse it, but all that happens is you miss the next cutscene.

Here's another puzzle (it's in 7th Guest, but I got the picture from a different source). You need to visit each node exactly once, and not reuse any paths. If done correctly, the letters should spell out a message.

they would be puzzles if the game actually gave you the materials to solve them without outside sources
but the game doesn't every puzzle is designed around the Idea of the player googling the answer and there rarely methods to solve them actually in the game
like the Morse code would make sense if they actually gave the player an in game chart or something to translate it manually
but nope you either have to already know Morse or open the in game web browser to find the answer
its completely laziness disguised as creativity

Broken Age Act 2 gets really stupid.

There's a few parts where the solution to a puzzle is in a different room... that your character can't go to. You have to switch characters, find the hint, and then switch back. But the characters have no way of talking to each other, so there's no feasible way for them to share that information. Also up to that point the two sections were fairly separate.

Also the boy's computer mom and dad are his actual parents but behind a computer screen. So stupid.
>>
>>384789541
I don't remember that at all from VI, are you sure about that? Granted it's easy enough that it probably isn't necessary anyway.

XII definitely did that though, and it was certain arbitrary chests that you had to not open in order to receive a weapon.

I opened that image with the intent of solving that, but I have no fucking clue how that game works. What am I looking at here?

I haven't played LA Noire, but that sounds like a realistic consequence for failure. Of course you're going to look like a retard and the guy is going to get away with it; you fucked up.

Ive seen tryst, but never sryly. Tryst is used in high fantasy to say that the queen is fucking some knight
>>
>normal puzzle
>enter the seemingly correct solution
>incorrect answer
>spend ten minutes figuring out the answer
>look up the walkthrough
>it was from character x's perspective, so the answer is the reverse

This happens so often, and I some how fall for it every time.

The Myst series is pretty comfy.
Though my favorite puzzle game would have to be Dark Fall: The Journal.
It was the first time I ever finished a point-and-click without any hints whatsoever. It made me feel like a super genius
