Fucking hipster, even Miller admits that Fury Road is the best Mad Max movie and what a Mad Max movie should be.
There is literally no reason to prefer Road Warrior other than nostalgia or contrarianism.

Fury Road is legitimately the best action movie ever made. It's not even close.

No, it has always been like that, if only for the simple fact that the 50s is the last decade that our universe shares with the fall out universe. All decades after that are divergent, i.e. "our" 80s never happened in the fall out universe.

That's now how game dev really works, anon. The market is more than big enough to support more than one post-apoc game. Just look how many fucking zombie games there are, and how successful so many of them are.
>>
I used to think the first movie was best but on repeated viewing it's the whole before the fall that appeals to me not Max's revenge, Road Warrior is always great to rewatch and definitely the best story and action imo, Thunderdome is cheesy as fuck but I like the soundtrack and it's a fun movie and Fury Road I've watched about 30 times because the action and cinematography is do fucking good. Fury Road may be light on story with them literally going back to the beginning but I still enjoyed the characters and world.

If Star Wars TFA took a note from Mad Max in focusing on the worldbuilding and reintroducing us back into the universe instead of repeating storylines then it could have been great.

I'm not sure you can even compare the first movie to the rest because it's so different. I love the setting though, it's so bleak, like the few months before society just completely falls apart. I'd like to see more Mad Max in that setting, especially because there's only a three-year gap between that and Road Warrior, but it probably won't happen.

It literally is true though buddy, the fall out universe shares our universe's history up to the 50s after which the fall out universe splits of and does its own thing. None of the fall out games have a "our universe 80s vibe" because our universe's 80s never happened in the fall out universe.
I do agree that fall out 3 and onwards went full retard on the 50s focus. One couldn't blame somoone for thinking fall out 3 is set in an alternate universe 1950s rather than an alternate tun inverse that had progressed to 2077> before turning to shit. It bothered me how much of a dick Max was at the end. He just kills Chumbucket and rides off, nothing heroic or selfless about it. Worse still is that the game inexplicably reverts to you still having Chum and the Magnum Opus, so you don't even get to 100% the game in the Interceptor.

At least you get the iconic post-apoc gear, though.

The first is pretty much the Rambo First Blood of Mad Max.
Everyone thinks the whole Rambo franchise is all about Sly shooting the shit out of terrorists and dictators in warzones when the very first movie was ANYTHING but that only had a killcount of one (which IIRC was an accident) and Rambo was crying and pretty much broken at the end.
Same with Mad Max where everyone thinks that the entire series is about Mad Mel in a postapocalyptic world where everyone slaps the next-best trash they can find on themselves and their cars and call it armor.

Is it really, though? Looking at the 2015 game, there's not much more you can do with that barren Australia setting. At most, it's just adding more basic content (probably stuff like better stealth options and more cities with characters and Thunderdomes), but ultimately it will need to be driving busted up cars through large areas of nothing, which we already have. There can't be anything more to scavenge for than ammo and junk.

Something like a mix of Lego Racers' car building mode and Besiege would be fucking awesome where you can decide by yourself where you want your spikes, weapons, armorplates, car parts etc. on your car.
>>
>>384762537
Yeah, that was stupid. It totally lost pacing there.

I really wanted to like this game. Too bad.
>>
>>384762234
Yes, but my point is that the fall out universe as shown in fall out 3 and later never really feels like a 2077 universe. Even without transistors I would have expected the world to have developed more by then, than what is shown in FO3.
If someone came along and said the entire game was set a 1955 alternate universe in which no transistors were invented so countries went all in on nuclear tech but ended up blowing each other up in a cold war gone hot, I would believe them. If it weren't for the in game logs there is very little to indicate the world really moved on. The fact that the "modern" weapons feel more like tongue in cheek joke weapons with their impractical designs and so forth doesn't help with this matter. It doesn't really feel like the weapons exist because it is 2077+, but more because the game has a Bond-tier villain evil organization so the weapons are Bond-tier silly to go along.
>>
>>384762961
I was just piggybacking off your reply I wasnt trying to challenge your post or anything. I agree with a majority of what you have to say but again we are only shown so much about pre-great war life.

Fallout 4 was the perfect opportunity for them to flesh out the pre-war shit by actually playing a pre-war human and they completely squandered it in the dialogue.

>>
>>384763268
I thought that was such a shame, they could have killed two birds with one stone if they had a large(r) portion of the game set in pre-war. First, like you say, they could have shown us what the world was like pre nuclear holocaust, and secondly they could have had the player get to know their family and child. Instead it is 5 minutes of a house interior after which I am supposed to care about some person being shot and some other person being abducted, the only feeble attempt the game makes at getting you to care is to whimper "b-but one is your spouse and the other your child!". Ya, well, unlike an actual spouse or child I had no investment in those two characters, I have had more meaningful relationships with shits I take.

I have literally felt worse flushing away a shit of mine, then when the game took away "my child", you are honestly fucking up bad at that point.
>>
>>384757228

People will shitpost about the Mad Max game; call it Bamaham combat and bitch about how shit the combat is, but fuck me if it wasn't pretty. The cars handled well, the world was well crafted and interesting, and it was FUCKEN STRAYA.

>I have literally felt worse flushing away a shit of mine, then when the game took away "my child".
Why can't Bethesda into basic (script)writing?

I cared about what happened to Booker and Lizzy/Anna because I was heavily invested in the two characters by the time shit started to hit the fan good and proper, and when it dawned on me where the ending was heading, I was actually quite upset, upset over what I rationally know are fictional characters placed in a hyperbolicly ridiculous alternate universe, in a game with arguably subpar gameplay. Yet I was still upset because of how the game lets me get to know the characters.

Why can't Bethesda learn in a fucking decade? Why are there stories still making dumb "scriptwriting pitfalls 101" mistakes? KILL ME.

Crossout is a mmo with Mad Max style vehicles and War Thunder combat
>>
>>384764967
I think the problem was that there wouldn't be any Chumbucket so no repairs which could mean five seconds into the desert you get t-boned by someone and instant death.

new movie when?

Rumours are that the next movie is called "Furiosa"

I hope they make a movie based on the comic with underground REEEEEEEEEE psychos

I really enjoyed it. After a while you see the Ubisoft open world formula and it tires you out. Some shitty design choices here and there but it did some fantastic things. Chumbucket manages to be endearing, driving feels great, combat is not as easy as batman and feels a lot more hard hitting, writing was better than I thought, Max gets some actual character development and not just an empty husk for the player, his back and forth with Griffa were fantastic.
And I love how after Hope and Glory are killed, how Max keeps hearing their voices telling him to do brutal stuff.
>You don't fear killing because you think you control it; you tell yourself such. Blood is not on your hands, but on theirs. Perhaps it's not the killing you enjoy...but the moments of silence that the fighting brings you.

actually that completely fell through because of some behind-the-scenes shit
next movie is Mad Max: The Wasteland instead and will be about Max

Great news then. I did like Furiosa as a character but movie focusing on her would be a disaster.

Mad Max 1 wasn't post apocalyptic. Society was slowly falling apart but the real apocalypse didn't happen. Road Warrior was the first post apocalyptic Mad Max

How do people like the first mad max. It's beyond me. It has terrible pacing and editing. It also has weird world that does not resemble mad max 2 or later at all. It's like they changed the lore after the first mad max.

i guess you're right. I haven't watched it for a while, so i merely thought it was society having imploded on itself with a really unique in-between society rarely if at all seen out there in fiction. Closest would ironically be the restoration efforts some cities in fallout 2 were doing i believe.

>>384773028

like some dude above mentioned, it's the Rambo: First Blood of Mad Max. Arguably Alien and Terminator too went this route.
>>
>>384773194
No no no no.

Terminator and alien was pretty much the same movie with the same atmosphere and lore and obviously sequels. Mad max one does not feel like a prequel to mad max 2 at all and as I said the world is totally different.

while the world did not change much in Terminator and Alien, true, the direction of the settings was radically changed. Arnie was no longer the menacing shark in society but rather a odd protector of sorts. Same with Alien going full colonial marines gung ho, which while not bad is a far cry from the Ishimura-tier spookiness of 1.

Seeing what the men did in charge. I'd also say it's a good thing.

It's still not the same. As I said Alien and Terminator are obviously sequels and you see that in the story and characters etc. Mad Max 2 is literally a different franchise if you want.

50 hours played. It's very repetitive. By about the 5 hour mark, you had experienced just about everything the gameplay had to offer.

Only thing that kept me going was the desire to see new locations.

Noone has touched on the real reason there hasn't been many mad max games.

The real reason is that after the first game the guy who owns the rights to mad max didn't think technology was anywhere near good enough to really represent the mad max world.

But seeing as how he signed off on the 2015 game im guessing that he is finally on board.

So we can expect more in the future.

I've 100%'d it, and yes, it's very repetitive, but it's still good.
Driving feels just right, atmosphere is top notch, world is pretty, graphics are pretty, combat is primitive but feels p. brutal, car combat is top tier, even without convoys, and storms are the best shit in video games ever. Also photo mode.

>storms are the best shit in video games
Storms were really cool. And if it weren't for photo mode, I might never have finished the game.

I'd have to go back and play some of it to figure out specifically what it was that wore on me but I think it was the story. If the gameplay can carry a game, it's fine if the story stays out of the way but when so much of the game is spent just driving from place to place and exploring, I want it to be a little more satisfying and involved..
