There are some real gems in the indie scene, but you have to know what to look for. First off, avoid anything that's trying to be "artistic". Also, avoid anything with alot of story altogether. It's the same recycled "man is the real monster/capitalism is satan/drumph is finished" ideaology spread across them. You want to go for the simple ones, the shmups, the action games, maybe the platformers.
