This isn't a story about YOU, anons. This is a story about Joel.
>>

For most of the encounters it definetly allows non-lethal.
What are you on about?
I can only think of one instance where you definetly cannot do non-lethal.

>>
>>384748686
>cliche ridden unoriginal story

Complete and utter shite. Also I love how /v/ always ignores half of what goes into a game and only talks about rudimentary gameplay elements (while underestimating the depth of it) or the basic plot to plot without considering everything else like the world building, the level design and the music.
>>
>>384747769
It's not a fucking survival game you dipshit.
It's just a third person corridor shooter. Not everything has to be packed with shitty early access memes like "open world" and "your choices really (don't) matter!"
Christ fucking off yourself.
>>
>>384746140
You're roleplaying as Joel. He's jaded and doesn't give a fuck about anyone but Ellie.

This is the same guy who literally doomed humanity just to protect his baby girl.

>tfw finally bought it after getting a PS4 so I could see if /v/ was just memeing about this game too
>they were mostly right
The game definitely has above average presentation, sound design, and actual voice acting unlike 80-90% of games on the market, but fuck if that gameplay wasn't the same shit I've played with Tomb Raider and Gears of War and every other cinematic TPS on the market. On the easier difficulties it's basically a shitty RE4 and on the higher ones it's an okay Metal Gear.
>>
>>384749084
name 1 (one) difference
>>
>>384749129
Its a stressful mechanic that I wish more games incorporated, nobody looks at a guy holding a gun and rushes his ass from twenty feet away. It actually provided a puzzle of sorts when it came to dealing with enemies.
>>
>muh choice

What is the source of this strange mentality that runs through /v/?
>>
>>384749082
This. It's kind of like how /v/ jerks off TWD constantly - the story isn't amazing or anything, but it does a very good job of developing the main characters and making you care for them.

>tfw I thought Joel died I had flashbacks to Lee
>>
>>384746949
But they never try to sell you on his morality?
When do they imply Joel is righteous in any way?
>>
>>384749174
The gameplay is much, much better on the highest difficulties. It's far too easy to play it like a generic TPS on the lower difficulties even if the game tries to discourage it.
>>
>>384746441
How do you ironically kill someone?
>>
>>384749129
My only complaint is that if you spare them or hold them at gunpoint too long they attack anyways. Hopefully TLoU2 has more AI variety so some of they actually run away for good if you scare them enough.
>>
>>384749194
Crafting
>>
>>384749194

>>
>>384749174
The gameplay is generic but incredibly satisfying when compared to other games with similar combat.
>>
>>384749296
I agree. The first time I played through was on grounded, and then I played a bit of it in normal and just stopped after the first few chapters. The story was engaging for the most part and the characters were written well, I just don't think it deserves nearly as many accolades as it got. It's really not that groundbreaking at all, although I gotta hand it to Naughty Dog for getting those kinds of visuals on a PS3.
>>
>>384749232
The only other game I've seen such a mechanic implemented was Dying Light, and I didn't even know about it until someone posted a webm involving just that.
>>
>>384749546
Stop being so autistic, it doesn't matter if normies and publications call it 10/10 best game ever made, it's a good game and that's all that matters.
>>
>>384749249
Only the first season. Maybe the second season due to Kenny.
>>
>>384746140
you actually want to stealth in that game?

Everything felt so mechanically wonky gameplay felt awful literally the only reason to play is the story which isn't good enough to carry it's awful gameplay
>>
Sure. Because in Fallout, you can just not kill anyone. It's that easy.
>>
>>384749546
I think it is pretty groundbreaking honestly. I can't remember the last time a game merged story telling and gameplay that well together. Maybe it's not 10/10 material, but I'd definitely give it an easy 9/10.

It's basically TWD, just with actual non-shit gameplay.
>>
>>384749546
Autism
It would be a good game if it got 10/10 or 1/10 from reviewers

Are you sure? Anything handgun above the default pistol kills reliably with two-three shots to the chest. Rifles all kill with one shot to the chest area.
>>
>>384750135
The game being awfully balanced in level design and enemy/resources placement while on normal difficulty doesn't mean it isn't a survival game

it's just a shitty survival game, like Resident Evil with infinite health or something
>>
>>384750114
Yea the intro is too slow but that's it
Uncharted 4 really goes over the edge tho
I'm very worried TLOU 2 might go that path

But uncharted 4 is the best TPS pretty much ever
Fluid, great level design, good story
But the pacing is fucking terrible
We'll have to see

>>384750206
xD
>>
>>384750206
If you didn't figure it out the game doesn't want you to shoot your way out of situations, this is why enemies literally never miss if you're moving towards them and taking a bullet puts in you a two second long stun animation. Also every arena is designed so enemies can flank you if you stay in one spot.
>>
>>384748686
>>cliche ridden unoriginal story
Nigger, even a contrarian "everything is bad" shithole like /v/ still has near daily threads talking about the ending of this game four years after release. What other games from 2013 still get talked about? And before you say GTA V, that game is online-focused and had new content added as recently as last month. The Last of Us is a 12 hour single-player game.

>>384750586
Joel is such a great character

>>
Why do so few people mention how good the writing is at the very end of the game when Joel lies to Ellie. That was probably the most real thing i've seen in a game.
>>
>>384750871
TLoU did it's SJW elements right, they're basically not noticeable unless you go looking for them. Prey 2017 did the same thing.
There's no issue if it's just women and blacks being present, to me at least.
>>
>>384751297
writing is pretty good in this game, I wish it was a movie instead a 15 hour long movie about corridors
>>
The reason why /v/ thinks the game doesn't have stealth is because unlike other games where the enemies have a set path, as the game goes on, enemies start to be more dynamic, so if you restart a section and try sneaking the same path you did before, you'll find that the enemies aren't there and are using a new path instead. This makes it seem like there's no choice but to kill everyone, but rather it just makes it so you can't memorize the enemies pathway to sneak past them and must do so by reacting to what's going on around you. This is also the only game I can remember where characters actually react and respond to collectibles.

The guy who wrote TLOU is a liberal but he's also a good writer
His games don't feel that political unless being gay is political
I don't remember politics being outright mentioned in Uncharted 4 or TLOU
>>
>>384751346
That's the biggest joke. People like to say the game is sjw pandering, but is it really? The gay guy turns out to be a pathetic asshole, the black guys are backstabbing incompetent fucks who dies, and all the women has to be saved by the big strong white male. The only person with a happy ending is the other straight white male who chooses to start a family. Even the matriarchal role is mostly unrepresented as Joel is a single father.

She was alright, at the start when she kills 2 guys I thought I would hate her, but nah
She does get hurt, and she needs Joel around because he's stronger and muscle

you should edit your post, it's out of date.

You now realize Ellie literally cannot have sex without infecting her partner. Poor girl, no wonder she's so angry in part 2

How come Naughty Dog never releases their games on PC? I suppose there's that streaming service, but still. I doubt it's a hardware issue.

I don't even like naughty dog games but when did it become mandatory to force choice into everything. It's much harder to tell a good story or have a defined character if it depends on player choice. Having joel do joel is 100x better than some trash like a bethesda game where you character has no identity.

This is what I came here to write. This shit post is retarded as fuck. Joel isn't your good guy high standing moral figure. He's a ruthless murder who finally found someone worth fighting for, and he will slaughter anyone who gets in his way
>>
>>384752717
the can be a middle ground between no identity and having a choice or two that actually matters.
>>
>>384753502
I'd generally rather just have a well told story. I think it's telling that most of the games remembered for their story had very little player input.
>>
>>384747413
Because it's a fucking story it's about Joel not you.
>>
>>384748772
I found the faggot that played it on easy. How fucking stupid can you be?
>>
>>384753502
I thought narrative being completely linear was refreshing.
>>
>>384753005
I can't remember it clearly, but didn't research notes at the end imply they use plenty of immune subjects before, but they couldn't extract a cure? Ellie would have died for nothing thanks to those fucks
>>
>>384749029
"Shooter" found another fag that played on easy
>>
>>384753870
>>384753574
the problem I had with no choice at the end was that story set it up as this huge dilemma, and the whole scene leading up to his rampage and onward had the wind taken out of it when I realized the choice was already made for me. especially if you try and don't kill the doctors, you can just stand in front of them an inch away like a jackass while he is threatening you.
>>
>>384749174
Why would you play it on an easy difficulty??
>>
>>384754169
>w-where are my moral choices
>this can't be happening
You were just in the wrong mindset.
>>
>>384754169
It was a dilemma for joel not for the player. Do you get the difference?
>>
>>384750135
Why in the fuck would you play it on normal? Are you fucking 7? Absolute a way different game at such a low difficulty

I found the game to be alright first time around, but after beating it I feel its one of those games that you cant get yourself to replay on higher difficulties or see things you missed. Why did those guys ambush your shit when you first got to pittsburgh anyways? Havent played in awhile.
>>
Ignored this POS until the first PSX open to the public. Decided to give it a shot because why not. Sit down game looked meh, I'd seen better textures in numerous games. Gameplay was abymally the same as Uncharted.

The funniest part was talking to some person who tried to wrap their head around that I didn't like it and it wasn't the best looking game out there.
>>
>>384754510
Not that guy but I'd wager most people (even those in this thread) played it on Normal first and only figured out that the game is a million times better on the harder difficulties later.
>>
>>384754392
>stutter posting
>>384754396
I get the difference, but like I said it killed the tension for me of the whole scene and the scene after. they could have also at least let you choose to lie to her about the fireflies or not.
I'm fine with a game being a rollercoaster, as long as they try to hide the railroading. it felt like they didn't try.
>>
>>384754617
>n-no seriously where are muh moral choices this sucks... railroading!
>>
>>384754617
Ignore the retard that can't argue in anything but meme form.

I guess I don't need it hidden from me. The entire game was the story of Joel. Joel loses his daughter joel becomes a shitty person, joel starts to open up again and when someone tries to take that from him joel doesn't let them.

At no point did the game pretend it was giving you control over the plot.
>>
>>384754945
You're the retard, that faggot actually holds it against the game that he doesn't get to make an arbitrary choice at the end like it's an Ubishit game or something.
>>
>>384751297
That was honestly the best moment of the entire game, and one of the most memorable moments in gaming this decade to me. The game as a whole isn't a 10/10 by any means but that ending legitimately was.
>>
>>384755064
Man I agree with you but you spam memes so you're a retard end of story.
>>
>>384754945
>At no point did the game pretend it was giving you control over the plot.
I know, I'm not too sure why I was so surprised by it, but I wish they changed the lead up to ellie being taken by the fireflies. also at least have the doctor slash at you with the scalpel when he's threatening you and you just stand in front of him.
>384755064
>arbitrary
look up words before using them. you made a better argument using nothing but memes
