There are only two past members of the Project M team on the Wavedash team to my knowledge. They weren't even the ones who had the original idea, they were just brought on because they had a better idea than most as to how platform fighters play and how to develop, balance, and animate for them.

The problem is that nobody ever makes a smash clone with characters that are actually recognizable.

That and the gameplay is generally trash because people see "oh, it's a platformer where you lose by ring-outs" but they don't understand the nuances that made Smash so much fun to play.

Like even going from Melee to Brawl, you can tell that the latter is an obvious fucking downgrade in terms of gameplay to the former, which is why the community died once P:M and Sm4sh became better alternatives.

In practical terms, the characters are all at least trying to be unique in terms of design and presentation, the gameplay works well as a more aggressive form of smash bros, the only thing wrong with it is that nobody is going to play a game with under 10 characters when they have games like Melee, Sm4sh, or P:M which boasts an exponentially higher cast of characters.

No one except maybe HAL is talented enough to make a worthy successor to Melee. Not Sakurai with Sora, not PMDT in its prime, DEFINITELY not a couple sellout PMDT members on a new team full nobodies and League of Legends artists, no one. Even Sakurai has admitted Melee only ended up the way it did because not only did they WANT it to be fast and technical, they'd work like 40 hours straight and sleep for 4 trying to get the game done. You're not going to get that kind of dedication anymore, especially not from a bunch of indie millennials who can't go an hour without checking their social media feeds. They're not familiar with how the physics work, they're not familiar with how the ECB diamonds work, not even the top players are really, only HAL had a complete understanding of the wizardry that went into the game, but you don't have to understand it to play and watch Melee and FEEL what's right about it. People have been studying and documenting Melee for years and were still discovering new stuff as of last year like V-canceling and light powershield.

Melee fans would rather run Melee into the ground for the few years it has left in it than jump ship to a game that doesn't live up to Melee. They didn't want Brawl, they didn't want PM, they didn't want Smash 4, they don't want Icons, I'll be the first to tell you it's a waste of time trying to pander to them because chances are you're not going to get it right anyway.

People rip on Overwatch's cast for being a bunch of stereotypes, but the fact that they're stereotypes works in the setting's favor. Basically every character is an archetype with IN THE FUTURE slapped in front of it.

Quake is gonna be redesigned aesthetically but his gameplay won't change. The stage needs slightly better texturing though. But yea I need to crowdfund to actually hire artists and pay modelers. I commissioned the stage and texturing for Golem dude. Umbri is almost finished with her new design and she's pretty easy to model, andor is also being redesigned.

Yea thats the problem with those types of characters, ones with very unique gameplay patterns that is. Like I could already see that you would need massive amounts of hours to know how to place the clone in advantageous positions. Its also a free get out of jail free card if knocks up or off the stage so people will get upset about that. A maximum range will probably be needed to swap, if you haven't already put that in.

I see once you change to the other clone, the other gets grounded or falls down, he could make it so if one clone falls you loose a stock, or make it so one falls that one dies, and the other gets heavily gimped like the ice climbers, or that you can only change while being standing on a platform

Characters like this need a disadvantage in some way because they get an extra advantage with their unique abilities. Usually this comes in the form of bigger models, less damage, takes more damage, etc. So not using the clone optimally will mean you are technically just playing a straight up weaker class than others.

The art is shit but I can deal with shit art.

The crime is that the gameplay so far looks sluggish compared to the game it's supposed to be ripping off. I want it to be good but so far it's unimpressive, they should have waited longer before reveal.

Nyxa's upb recovery was wonky, and DI had a major issue, if you were grounded, the game could think you are in the "running" state while stunned and limit your knockback velocity to your max run speed. a lot of other stuff too. note: umbri's ai doesn't work.

yes, if you are using the official wii-u adapter you need to use GCN and Vjoy, it's also kinda fucked up because It's impossible to natively support that particular adapter through unity, I'd have to write my own driver like dolphin does. Use the defaults on everything. until you are in-game. the in-game pause menu lets you configure your controller.

mayflash works out of the box though.

The actual gameplay looks fun but the animations and sounds are clearly unfinished. They're making a big mistake doing a Steam release though because the interest in the game will die down and it'll be flooded with negative reviews when it's in an unfinished state.

They need to have a closed beta signup and host it on their own site. And then when they actually are super close to finished they put it on Steam just like what Gigantic's devs did.

It's too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to contact them and tell them not to release on Steam. Their game's going to end up dead in the water within a year if they do.
