Why isn't there a 4chan game development group?
I don't mean like /agdg/, I mean a group that actually works TOGETHER on games.
As long as people only work individually, development capabilities are very limited.
For example, I can do graphics programming and make fancy algorithms to add lots of extra detail to the game, but that doesn't count for shit because I can't confidently write a main loop or do AI programming.

That's why you need a game that's simple at its core, but is easily extensible.

I've got a game idea like that; I'd totally make it if I had all the skills necessary.

Pretty much the idea for the game is to simulate a war until one side loses, rewind time back to the start, then put the player on the side that's going to lose. The scale of the war is immense, and the player's score is based on how much better the war turns out from their contribution.
The player may be one unit in thousands or even millions (millions can be simulated, I know how), but they do actually stand a chance of turning the tide of the war: Because they can review how the war played out without them. They can save their army from major defeats by preventing the battles from occuring in the first place.

Start with something simple and go from there. Probably better to find a genre, type of game, setting and a few characters/enemies (atleast their looks). If you get results asap it'll be more motivating to continue working. If you get a very small base game you can build on, it should keep people going.

Never go for an endless drag. People get demotivated because nothing is coming out of it.

You have no idea what you're talking about. At the very least, you need a battle that can function in real time, with different unit types and art, AI, SFX, and animations for each. That alone is a lot of work. Not to mention you need a player character with abilities that are actually entertaining to use and affect the battle, and won't make the player quit after more than one game.
