1.50 on GOG right now.

Obviously the price is great but how much is it worth it. Has the game aged like rotten milk?
>>
>>384731256
Nigger it's one of the best pre-2000 pc games. It still holds up today.
>>
System Shock 1 is better, as long as you get the mouselook mod.
>>
>>384731256
It's pretty boring and mostly hyped by nostalgia, one is a much better game.
>>
>>384731453
thats what you guys said about morrowind.
Granted I ended up playing probably 100 hours of it, but i'm not up for sitting through another game that aged like smelly rotten goats anus

It's still great, combat hasn't aged well though. But like morrowind there are a bunch of graphic mods that make it more modern looking. Sound design/voice acting still blows many modern games out of the water.

also SHODAN is best waifu
>>
>>384731256
It has aged like fine wine.
Can't same the same about the first one, unfortunately.

you're just being a hipster faggot. SS1 aged like garbage juice, it's shit and the only reason to play it is moar SHODAN.
>>384731256
if you want to play SS1 wait until the remake

>>
>>384731965
System Shock 2 is a legitimately good game, If you are familiar with dues ex you'd love the game.
>>
SS1 has better gameplay, SS2 does everything else better.
>>
Oh shit nigger, if this is just a graphics and controls update then I am hyped as fuck.
>>
>>384732204
Yeah... what was it about game engines in those era's and there sound design. I actually feel disoriented in a lot of modern games because it's so hard to tell where a sound is coming from in terms of direction - everything sound wise seems sort of spotty now.
>>
>tfw dumb nintenbro who's never played an FPS before
>try this on steam

>>
>>384732376
Everything in SS1 is better, it had more focus on what it wanted to do rather than try to be 15 different things at once like 2 did with it's shitty light RPG elements and other unfinished ideas like the ghosts. Not to mention the level design in particular is amazing and infinitely better than 2's mostly linear corridors.
>>
>>384731256
It has a couple boring parts like finding the code through the paintings (which wouldn't be so bad if they told you to start looking sooner), and destroying all the black eggs but other than that it's still fun. I played it again not too long ago and still enjoyed it.
>>
>>384732204
>combat hasn't aged well
That's a understatement, They tried to adapt the tabletop dnd system into a first person perspective, The exploration and lore is the real meat of the game but the combat simply is not engaging by any stretch of the imagination.
>>
>>384732556
>ss1 has better gameplay
its a dos game, it controls like arena.
>>384732860
which part exactly?
>>384732872
The interface was shit, the music was shit, the level design was daggerfall tier (looks randomly generated), the only thing it did better was it's ending as SS2 had a god awful ending. They did a good job with the RPG elements seeing as it's a FPS, the best in the "series" (including the bioshock games)
>>
>>384731256
>GOG
No thanks.
>>
>>384732872
SS1 had some pretty confusing-for-no-reason level design, and annoying aspects like the invisible enemies. The last "fight" was awful too. Still a decent game considering its age though, and worth playing if you liked SS2. Might be better to wait for the SS1 remake if you want to play it but I'm not sure how long that's going to take until release.
>>
Only bother if you're a fan of immersive sims, otherwise your aint gonna like it. Might appear to have aged badly if you have a hard time playing old games, otherwise graphics and controls are easily overlooked.
>>
>>384733201
>the only thing it did better was it's ending as SS2 had a god awful ending.
Do you mean the ending story or gameplay? The SS1 fight with Shodan was really bad.

I very much disagree on the graphics moddding. It's rudementary polygon models and locations, with basic animations. You'll only make it uglier and jarring if you try to cram custom high res textures and high poly character models in there.

No mods needed for modern GoG and Steam versions to run, they support modern resolutions and even have a modern keyboard layout control scheme
>>
>>384733557
Yeah most people make fun of that. Not sure if they thought they were adding a bit of humor after all the horrible things the player went through, but it would've been better if they had him just shoot instead.

I disagree, some older models are better like the midwives but overall there are a bunch of textures that are just enhanced versions of the original textures and you can actually make out what the object is supposed to be.
>>384733770
I think multiple ending would have been better, there sort of is a mod for that though
>>
>>384731256

I played it for the first time in 2015. It played flawlessly, even with melee. You get hit by an enemy it is your fault, the controls are great (because they were not made for mouse+kb AND shitty ass gampead, they were pure mouse+kb controls and they play better than modern games due to gamepad shitalization)

Played it back a few months ago, game holds up surprisingly well outside some of the character models. It was honestly one of the best games I have played recently.

Only downside is the end portions get easy as fuck and the last area is pretty meh and not designed very well. You will also have to rebind your keys though since A and D are turn and not strafe.
>>
>>384734060
click with your mouse, what are your stats? but the wrench should be able to take down most enemies. if you use psionics you hold down the mouse button and release when it gets close to the end of the bar.

I haven't seen enough yet to judge properly, to be honest. I'm gonna play it when it comes out even if it ends up looking like a steaming pile by then, and the original is always there in that case.

I agree, once you get to deck 4 it's a lot more "navigate this maze and find X number of items". It was still similar before that but easier to navigate and you usually only had to find 1 of something. It's not really more difficult on deck 4+, just more confusing.

There was supposed to be something in-game talking about how The Many was releasing a gas into the ship that rusted the weapons. I think they said it would've confused new players into thinking there's a time limit on beating the game so they just left it out.
>>
>>384742475
That's still really early into the game, you shouldn't be having that much trouble. Do you have vsync enabled? The first time I played the game I had vsync off so it made the game run really fast and increased the difficulty a lot.
>>
>>384731256
Played it for the first time a few years ago (something like 2010), and fucking loved it. Instantly skyrocketed to my top-10 games of all times. I even replayed the very instant the credits had rolled.
>>
>>384732578
Well, they used the same engine they designed for Thief, and a lot of effort went into sound for that engine since it was important to hear where sounds are coming from when you're sneakan

>I actually feel disoriented in a lot of modern games because it's so hard to tell where a sound is coming from in terms of direction - everything sound wise seems sort of spotty now

I had this happen when I played that last Tomb Raider game with headphones, I guess because there was no separate headphone mode and they exaggerated distances to give more of a surround sound experience but sounds just didn't feel like they came from the right places at all. I would be listening to two guys in front of me talking and it would sound like one is about fifteen feet to my right even though they're both in front of me
>>

Oh yeah, if you get spotted by a camera early on it draws enemies directly to you for like 3 minutes, not much you can do about that except reload if you don't survive. If you have hacking you can hack a security station to disable the alarm.

Once you assemble a surgical table in that area so you can easily heal yourself it gets a lot easier. And make sure you activate the respawn points, if you haven't. You lose some credits respawning but that's it.

all your points are valid. I only played through to deck 3, and the whole thing just felt like one giant keycard hunt. All the environments and gameplay blend together. I couldn't imagine playing it without learning being guided for skill selection as well.
