What do you look for in an adventure? I had plenty of fun in Souls games just wandering around my first time through. I like to explore.

I think Dark Souls is the closest you can get to feeling like a Knight. I know you dont get to fight regular humans often, but its a pretty tremendous, daunting, dark adventure.

I guess Mount and Blade could scratch OPs itch, but personally I found the controls fucking abhorrent. And it crashed a ton.

Let me recommend some shit of my top 15 RPGs list.
>Gothic I and II
Best feeling of progress, story is not very epic and troughout the whole game you are more of a thug than knight, even if you join Paladins
>Fable: The Lost Chapters
Best character progression (story-wise), this game will truly let you feel what is it like to be THAT Hero. Combat is dull as fuck tho.

I suggest trying all 3. They are older games but provide unique feeling of adventure. Gothic is somewhat "realistic" storywise as in you progress in a social ladder, but it doesn't really matter since it's ladder of shit.
Fable provides one of the best story-telling ever, it feels like your favourite grandpa reading you stories about great heroes slaying dragons again. Gameplay-wise tho it's just buttonmasher tho.

Not that anon, but M&B controls like marionettes covered in syrup compared to more recent action adventure games. If you took Souls or Dragons Dogma combat and plopped it down on the M&B premise, I think the game would be massively improved.
