To put it simply, when Sega failed with the Saturn, they were replaced by Sony, Nintendo wasn't more popular than Sega at that time and released the N64 later. Basically, everyone had a Playstation, for the 128 bit generation, Sega started well but Sony grew so fast that it didn't matter, the ps2 was the seen as the first 128 bit there.
For the ps360 gen, Sony was late, resulting in Microsoft doing good, for the current generation, Microsoft did shit so people just get back to Sony.

Nintendo treated Europe a lot worse than they treated America back in the 90s. Releases were always later, some shit never came out etc. You were a second class citizen to Nintendo in Europe, and due to this, they didn't take off nearly as much here in America. They've gotten a lot better about this over the years, but it's too late for that to impact their audience size.

Xbox has always been even worse in this regard.

PlayStation on the other hand has mostly treated Europe like they have America - some stuff hasn't come over, sure, but for the most part we got the same or other kinds of special treatment. Coupled with being the primary platform for normies to get FIFA, Europe fucking loves PlayStation.

NES/SNES was never as popular in Yurope, N64 was ignored in favor of PS1 and latter consoles were pretty niche.
