Let's face it, there's no way at this point that the Marvel vs. Capcom team isn't at least passively trying to assist Infinite in failing. The "functions vs. functions" gaff had to have been intentional, because no-one, even at Capcom, can actually be that stupid. Peter Rosas was basically saying "we know this game is shit and I'm trying my damnedest to make sure you don't buy it, because we don't want to do another one."
Capcom's developers wanted to make a Capcom-only crossover fighter and are stuck making a commercial for Marvel's movies. As they say, if you do something badly enough, no-one will make you do it again.

Apparently they used the wrong model for Abigail in the reveal trailer.
So, either Capcom is that stupid or worse, they think it's a better than saying "due to fan reaction we're going to update/change the model"
We're talking about Capcom here

Can someone explain to me this function meme?

>When GameSpot asked Peter and Mike about missing characters like Magneto and Sentinel, they gave a response.
>"If you were to actually think about it, these characters are just functions. They're just doing things," said Peter Rosas.
>"Magneto, case and point, is a favorite because he has eight-way dash and he's really fast, right? Well guess what, Nova can do the same thing, Captain Marvel can do the same thing. Ultron can do the same thing."
>"It's just the function that people are associating with the character, and there's no shortage of that. We made sure that all proper playstyles can be represented with our current roster."

Maybe a pro player would think like that but even then it's a stretch. Ryu and ken are similar on the base level but still play a bit differently. That doesn't mean people who like the idea of ryu would accept just having ken.
