Tell me why DS2 is bad without mentioning enemy placement. If you had issues with enemy placement besides Iron Keep you are a shitter and shouldn't be playing Souls games.

it's twice the length of das1 and has maybe 6 good bosses, most of which are in the dlc
>>
>>384681764
you barely need any stamina
bosses aren't hyper aggressive in ds1, it's just a fallback for poor stamina management
>>
>>384681885
>>384681784
meant to reply to you
>>
>>384681896
That's because stamina management is not a needed skill in any souls game.

Only people who don't level stamina think this.
>>
>>384681357
You're missing the point. No matter how many estus flasks you have you'll still die from traps, getting one-shotted, falling into pits, and getting gang raped by enemies without having a chance to heal. It's still not as challenging as some make it out to be, but that's the idea
>>
i got a mod that lets me save whenever i want and im wondering what the difficulty is supposed to kick in
>>
>>384681635
Lifegems and ring of never lose your souls. With 4 ring slots and chloranthy and regen ring right at the start. DaS isn't hard, but DaS2 is downright pathetic. Easily the easiest, even more than DeS with its stacks of grass.
>>
>>384681357

You have a very set amount of healing possible at the beginning of the game. For a first time player humanity is a scarce resource so they have to make the decision over whether they want to use a humanity and allow themselves to recharge more estus at a single bonfire or whether they want to reverse hollowing to try and summon a phantom to help them with a boss they may be struggling on.
Apart from a few other items there is very limited healing available meaning there is only a set number of mistakes you're allowed to make in an area before you will inevitably die and have to try again. Once you git gud and stop making these mistakes you will be able to push further into a new region or make it to the boss with more resources intact.

Using tons of humanity to bolster your healing reserves is a bit of a moot point since you'll only really be able to farm that late-game, although I must admit I do prefer how DaS3 does it where you can only restore your ember for the healing that it grants once, and only if you were already unkindled.

Forgot to add. Six more bosses than the ones you had in mind
>>
>>384682283
the problem is it's twice as long and half as good
the only good bosses you listed are the pursuer, looking glass knight and darklurker
and the only other good bosses are smelter demon, ivory king, fume knight and sir allone
>>
I like that the minimal handholding of the game. Although I agree that the difficulty ist overrated.

3 of the bosses you listed are in my 6 lol, the other 3 are shit

>>
>>384682442

Nah, on average they both have the same level of quality. DaS2 is just more consistent in its average-ness while DaS1 has an amazing first half and then turns pretty disappointing after you get the lordvessel.

If DaS2 is a 7/10 for the whole game then DaS1 is 10/10 for the first half then 4/10 after the lordvessel.
>>
>>384682653
my problem with das2 is it's quantity over quality, i really didn't enjoy most areas and the best bosses were late game or dlc, which makes it more of a chore to beat
>>
>>384682653

I still liked the game for the most part, I found most of the early game bosses to be OK, but I agree that the best ones were mid-to-late game but so were some of the worst.

>Dragonrider
>Old dragonslayer
>Pursuer
>The Last Giant

Those were all fairly inoffensive, if a bit simple. Although I did like how you had that one chance to beat the pursuer early and get a nice ring as your reward or you could just run away from him too.

I actually really like the design of the ruin sentinels in retrospect as well:
You get introduced to the first one on its own where you can take it 1v1 and learn it's close range moveset, but are also confined to a small platform so can't back off easily to chug estus. If you drop down then it's straight into a 2 sentinel fight.
After the first is beaten you then get introduced to the second one but can take a moment to look around and see that there is a third one slowly making its way to jump down: So you have a chance to learn some of the moves the sentinels will use in a more open area as well as get in some good damage to the second one before the last one arrives and you have to focus on two bosses at once.
After that the challenge is keeping aware of two bosses at once while also trying to keep track of the one with lower health so you can reduce the fight back to a single boss as soon as you can.
It's actually a pretty neat boss design and a good way to handle a multi-boss encounter. Definitely better than the shit they pull in some of the other fights (royal rat authority)

It wasn't meant to be this amazing grand challenge, just because I game was a little more difficult than most modern games everyone spun it around jerking off about how hard DS is supposed to be, mostly when it hit PC tbqh, and now you have shit like IS X THE DARK SOULS OF Y!?!?!? In the current play through that Plague of Gripes is doing he starts ranting about this and does a pretty good job explaining why it's fucking stupid that the series got spun into that

By today's standards Dark Souls is challenging, and that's says more about the status of video games then it does about dark souls.

we dont take meta critic seriously, why would we accept any opinion when it comes to dark souls which normies are constantly screaming for an easier version.

Only if your a normie.
The reason the game is "hard" is because normie view death as failure. In dark souls, death is a cycle in the world, and this carries over into the gameplay.
Dying doesn't mean the game is over try again, dying means you just learned a bit more.
Fuck, once you know everything even the late game becomes a breeze.
>>
>>384686883
one can see what game the normies prefer, I give you that
>>
>>384686883
I'd rather be forced to play brianna wu's garbage chute of a game before I play DS2 again. I'd rather put my head inside of a hippo than play SOTFS again.

So STR or DEX?

18 Dex, rest in STR, Black Knight weapons and a +15 composite bow since BK upgrade with twinkling.
>>
>>384681635
I beat the first boss without ever getting estus

so hard
